Smile Ultimate John Love Song Poll

^ Get a load of my smilies ^

Ok, so 4eyes created some polls a while back where he divided John into 4 periods: early Beatles, late Beatles, early solo, late solo and tried to find the best love song John wrote from each period.

As you can tell, I gave a f*** and looked these polls up. I bumped them and I am now making an ULTIMATE JOHN LOVE SONG POLL using the songs that won from each poll. (I feel so official.)

The songs that came out on top were:

If I Fell
In My Life
Julia
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Jealous Guy
Woman

Now, these 6 songs were the ones that came out on top. I almost felt inclined to stick Out The Blue on here because it was only 1 below Jealous Guy (that early John solo period had some SHODDY vote totals- where were you people?!?!?)

But I stuck to just the top spots, to make this EXTRA challenging.

I would like everyone to vote and explain their answers. I will include no "other" category because these were based on the polls of 4eyes and I have already taken it upon myself to make this poll without him knowing (sorry dude). So let me be at least partly respectful and stick to what was selected.

I hope people participate. And respond. This could be difficult but just view it as a "stupid poll Fly made to pass the time" and all will be well.

Thank you and goodbye.

Default My choice was JULIA are you shocked?

Well, my obvious choice was Julia because it is plain and simple the best song ever written by anyone in pop/rock music and it has always affected me in the most incredible ways. Ever since I heard this gorgeous song I felt like there could never be any song to compare to it. I named my first child after the song, because she is as beautiful and precious to me as this song was from the moment I heard it. I will always love it forever.

I'm sorry that I made you cry (oh my)
I didn't want to hurt you
I'm just a Jealous Guy

Red face Oh man this was hard!

Fine, Fly. You pushed me up against a wall and I had no choice but to choose one. I went with "Woman" for many reasons. It's just a beautiful, classic love song. But also, it says everything you could ask for in a love song and yet there has just the right amount of words. The melody is gorgeous. John's voice is gorgeous. I think it is THE definitive love song for a woman. And, much as every song on that list is a masterpiece, I had to choose the love song of the bunch- and this was it.

Post Let me think twice...

.... hmm, I would have voted "It's only love", but since it's not on the list

Although I'm a fan of "In my life", I never regarded this song as a "love" song.

"Jealous guy" is great, but it's more a song about forgiveness than love to me.

"I want you (she's so heavy)", hmm... is that really about love ?

"Julia" is very moving, but too sad for me. As I guess that many will chose "Woman", which is an OBVIOUS love-song, I finally voted "If I Fell", because it's joyfull, serious and innocent about love

I am in total agreement with you, Maia. I love all these songs. Each and every one.

But Maia, if "Dear Prudence" was thrown in (pretend it was interpreted as a love song)...what would you vote?

No fair... that is a trick question and I can't really answer it.

The thing is, Dear Prudence is an amazing song to me... it's a great sonic trip and it's almost like a spiritual experience. You know how art can affect you in an indescribable way sometimes? That's what Dear Prudence does for me. But Jealous Guy... that hits me on an emotional level. Apples and oranges, I guess. If Prudence were really Yoko, say, or some other woman John truly loved, then I'd choose it over all other love songs (probably)... but since it's just a really cool song and contains no visceral emotion like John's love songs, my reaction to it is on a completely different level.

I'm noticing some people have not voted in here. I think I haven't made myself clear: Please EVERYONE vote! And then let's talk.

Hi Fly! Great poll ;-) Sorry I took so long to vote, but then again, I ain't known for my speed!
Well, this was pretty tough to choose one out of here…I love "Woman" for it's obvious sweetness & affection…"Jealous Guy" is an apologetic love song, and one I can relate to too well…"If I Fell", so nostalgic, pretty that it could be the one…."In My Life" really encompasses love for everyone, so it could be argued that this alone makes it the "ultimate" love song…sigh…."Julia" is so dreamy, beautiful, cloud-like that I can't help but crown this song John's Ultimate Love Song

And here to sing this lovely song for you, is none other than Mr. Sean Lennon! Take it away Sean…

I picked "Woman," but I was damned close to choosing "Jealous Guy."

"I Want You" is more like desperation and lust, to me.

Snoopy, your favorite Lennon love song is "It's Only Love," huh? That's different.

Of course, "Julia." Sigh.

Damn. Can I vote more than once?

I think it's such a difficult poll, wilde. I can't really figure out how I ended up voting, but "Woman" is such a magnificent work of beauty...

but "Julia"...

but "If I Fell"...

but "In My Life"...

Default I note that "Out the Blue" is not included in this poll

...which has some of the most amazing lyrics

All my life's
Been a long, slow knife
I was born just to get to you...

Anyway, I've survived
Long enough to make you my wife...

That just breaks my heart every time I hear it.

I think Fly was going to put "Out The Blue" on the poll because it had 1 vote less than another song, but she just selected one for each era. That song is gorgeous though...
