Exclamation Paul's got his first girlfriend pregnant?!

I know that on the thread about the book "The Beatles" by Bob Spitz people seem to be trashing the book, but I'm not sure that I have an opinion of it because I haven't looked at it yet. Back to the main topic, I saw an interview with the author on the Today show, and he said he found Paul's first girlfriend in Canada, (that he said was never heard of in the beatle fan world) Dot something or other I think her name was. He said that when Paul was young, he got her pregnant and purposed to her, but she miscarried and two weeks later they broke up. I was horrified! I've never heard this story. Has any body else heard this or maybe has more information on this? This maybe known to some of you, but I sure haven't heard it before.

I've heard some about this before, but I don't really know if it's true or any more details. I'm not quite sure why it's so horrifying though...

I wasn't really that horrified, I had just never heard this before. I mean, I thought I knew a lot there was to know, but I didn't know this, and the author of that book said they made up a lot of their Beatle history, so now without reading the book I don't know what is true or not or what to think at all, but reading the posts on here about the mistakes in it seem to make me not want to read the book. I'm kind of confused about weather I should read it or not. I don't want fact to be confused with fiction in my mind.

That's been known of for years-her name was Dot Rhone and she went to Hamburg.
Spizz never found that info himself its in the Steve Turner book-perhaps one of the few he checked his info from.It was also in a Channel 4 documentary in the 70s called the Beatle Girls

Yea, when I read that about Dot in the Spitz book, I remembered hearing it before. I guess we can't know for sure, but would any of you honestly be surprised if this story was true? It's not as if Paul was some sort of saint who saved himself for marriage.

I read that "She Loves You" was written for Dot. I would not be surprised if this story was true and it sounds like it probably is. Even so, since we cannot vouch the veracity of the story either way, suffice to say that it would not be surprising.

I am curious - what of Dot Rhone today?

it's true. she was a virgin when her and paul started dating, and they went at it when paul's father and brother were out. paul's father had already made arrangements for them to get married, but she miscarried shortly after that and the wedding was canceled.

I remember reading something about Paul and Dot from Cyn's book actually, but I dont really remember the reasons why they broke up. It does sound vaguely familiar though...

I just read that part a couple of days ago. Apparently Dot and Cyn had flats next to each other and were having a "girls' night" when Paul came over to break up with Dot. Dot thought at first he was breaking up with her because he'd seen her in curlers and bloomers, but according to Cyn, it was because Paul wanted his freedom. I don't think she mentioned anything about a pregnancy or miscarriage for Dot; perhaps Cyn didn't know about it at the time or didn't want to go into it.

Funny...it's been many years since I read Cynthia's first book and I don't recall coming across anything like that about Dot, either, SF. The article about Dot was very interesting and I was delighted that she was blessed with three daughters.

Yes, Paul did in fact get his first serious girlfriend Dorothy "Dot" Rhone pregnant, but she lost the baby. A member of BeatleLinks, Sentimentalist, has written a biography about her. Also has pictures: http://sentstarr.tripod.com/beatgirls/rhone.html

Why is this horrifying? I'm confused about that one. Anyway, I too read of this alleged Dot. Paul looks so cute in those pictures... But, um, yes, pregnant woman by Paul McCartney. That's three on his public record. His private record, however, we have no idea about.

On Sent's website, the breakup came much later after the miscarriage, more like a year rather than Spitz' two weeks.
