Re: While my guitar gently weeps
I see. But why did he bring in Eric Clapton? Why didn't he use Lennon or Paul instead?

Re: While my guitar gently weeps
The Beatles were having a lot of personal problems in the studio during this time, and George thought bringing in Eric, an outsider, would make the others behave -- kind of like putting on company manners.

Re: While my guitar gently weeps
Besides if you're going to bring in someone to play a guitar solo Clapton is about as good as you can get.

While my guitar gently weeps
I heard rumors that Eric Clapton was involved in this song. Isn't that sort of cheating? Who composed the guitar part that he played, Harrison or him?

Re: While my guitar gently weeps
Actually, I'm almost positive Clapton wrote his guitar parts himself. It must be written down somewhere in some book, but I can't imagine George telling Eric how or what to play. I would think that the whole point in bringing him into the song was to get a different sound. I'm sure George just said, here's where you solo, and Eric just laid it down.

Yeah good point, what's the point of setting down limits on him. If George had done that he might as well have recorded the solo himself. But you never know he may have given a few suggestions of what he wanted in the solo and then Eric took it from there.

this has got to be right. You don't write out solos like those played in that song. that was Clapton totally improvising at his finest.

Isn't that cheating? I mean a little bit? Do other bands do that too?

It happens more often than you can't understand Mick Jagger singing. Especially nowadays, and often it isn't because you could not do it yourself you just want to have a fellow musician take part in your music.

Re: While my guitar gently weeps
Clapper just did the guitar part out of the blue, George did not write that.

It worked so well that George made magic again by inviting Billy Preston to play on "Let It Be".
I still like George's first take of the WMGGW(Anthology 3 version.) It's a shame that he had to resort to a guest player just to get his song on the album.
