Paul Gets High at Led Zep
McCartney Gets High At Led Zep Reunion Gig
By Mariana McConnell: 2007-12-12 21:58:47
According to British publication The Mirror, Sir Paul McCartney was spotted at Led Zeppelin’s reunion show on Monday night enjoying a big fat marijuana cigarette. At which point the police were called, the show shut down, Macca escorted away in handcuffs and…uh, no. Nothing was done to halt the illegal activity, as the discreet staff at the O2 Arena allegedly told Paul, “It’s okay, you’re a legend.”
A legendary pothead, that is. The former Beatle has never made any secret of his love for the drug, which was famously introduced to the band by Bob Dylan in 1966. Macca was an active supporter Legalise Marijuana Campaign and helped pay for a 1967 editorial in the London Times calling for the release of all convicts of pot related charges. McCartney also has the distinction of being busted for possession more times than any other major rock star. He was fined for smuggling hashish into Sweden in 1972, ran afoul of authorities in Scotland for marijuana possession that same year, and was caught in Scotland again for growing the plant on the highlands farm he shared with first wife Linda in 1973. McCartney’s most renowned brush with the law is his 1980 arrest and subsequent deportation in Japan for bringing half a pound of weed into the country. Half a pound! Did he want to smoke out the entire population?
Despite soon to be ex-second wife Heather Mills’ prenuptial request that Paul quit his daily blazing, old habits are hard to kick (unlike bitchy ex-wives). While I could be jealous that Paul is free to puff a doob in full view while I can’t even smoke a cig within 20 feet of my local Starbucks, I can take solace in the fact that not only has Paul taken one for the team on numerous occasions, but that he knows what us Zep fans have always known: “Dazed and Confused” sounds even awesomer when you’re baked.

What was Macca smoking?

We know celebrities sometimes bend the rules - but if you're Paul McCartney you can get away with any thing.
The Beatles legend was spotted with what seemed to be a, er, herbal roll-up, but discreet staff turned a blind eye as Macca, 65, puffed away.
One over-zealous worker gushed: "Don't worry, you're a legend." Earlier that evening he'd decided he needed a swift drink - or two - and rocked up to the bar where he ordered two pints just 15 minutes before the opening number. It's a miracle he got served though - we're told staff were instructed not to speak to him.
His daughters Stella and Mary and comic Vic Reeves kept him company until he finished.

Well that song puts me in a freaking trance even when I'm sober as a nun, so I would think so, yeah...

I'm deeply saddened to hear that a recipient of the MBE and a Knight would not obey the law. Sir Paul McCartney smoking marijuana at a concert! What a let down. After all he has an image to uphold. What legacy will he leave for his children?
I'm quite sure Led Zeppelin was upset to hear about this too.

I don't support the use of drugs. I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't use drugs. However, Paul McCartney has used those kind of drugs since he was a beatle. Do you think that he would stop using it now, when he is 65? Everybody make mistakes. And I think that each person can think about what is doing. I love the Beatles and I don't use drugs. So, Paul's kids will use drugs only if they want to do it.

Rock 'n' Roll.
I think I posted something about this on the Led Zep concert thread but it wasn't as detailed as that.

Yeah, because nobody else gets away with smoking pot at rock concerts.

So Paul can smoke pot because he's a legand, but Amy Winehouse gets all this scrutney for her drug abuse?
Something's not right here.

Well.. you're mixing apples and oranges here. Winehouse has a serious chemical abuse problem. Macca is totally in control and a casual user.
Paul smoking grass at a Led Zep show! How I wish I could have been there to witness that!

Who thinks Heather will use this bit of news against Paul? Raise your hand.

I totally agree with you. It's difficult to find a band which don't use or has never used any kind of drug. I repeate: I don't support the use of drugs. However, I think that nobody has the right to judge Paul, because we all do things which another people don't like. Nobody is perfect. And we have to love people the way they are!

Yeah, I bet they're deeply embarrassed to be his offspring... I bet they hear it all the time... "Oh your father is that Paul McCartney fella? The pot head, right? No respect for him!"

Was just about to say the same.
I haven't seen any photos lately of Paul wandering around East London at 5am wearing only his underwear. And trainers.

Haha! Actually when I was with Page & Plant on the '95 & '98 tours, I didn't see or smell any drug use by any band members. I think it's more of a "been there, done that" thing with them.
