Our source tells us the Anthology DVD set has been postponed for a few months (they're now likely in Spring 2003), and is in a "To Be Scheduled" status at this point.

Something you might want to point out to the readers out there regarding the possibility of the Anthology DVD set being delayed is that there is a huge amount of Beatles and Beatle-releated material coming out in a short amount of time in the next several months. A Ringo live CD just came out, and DVD's are due for "A Hard Day's Night" and Paul's "Driving USA" tour. There's the possibility of a George CD coming out. (Editor's note: It's due in November, according to latest word.) Fans are also a bit lighter in the pocket book thanks to Paul's touring.
We've all heard about how Apple tries to co-ordinate and space out their own releases, and also tries to co-ordinate them with solo Beatle projects. I was really surprised after hearing about both a DVD set for "AHDN" and one or two DVD's from Paul's tour coming out in the next few months, that DVD's for "Anthology" and "Let It Be" were also coming up.
I'm not the least bit surprised that "Let It Be" has been put off until next year, and in fact never assumed it would be out this year. I'm also not very surprised that the "Anthology" DVD has been put on hold. With both "AHDN" and Paul's live tour DVD's coming out soon, they probably want to space out these releases more.
Beyond what I've mentioned, there have also been other releases recently such as the Queen's Jubilee DVD, the reissue of the "Blue Seude Shoes" Carl Perkins show on DVD, there's also a Wingspan book being prepared. The "Anthology" paperback is coming out, which actually is the one thing that does in fact makes me wonder why they delayed the "Anthology" DVD set since it would tie in perfectly.
A reissue of George's "I Me Mine" is coming out. I imagine there might also be a CD of Paul's tour coming out, and the live Ringo DVD is coming out as well. So my best guess would be that Apple realized the market is too crowded with other DVD releases, not to mention other CD and book projects, etc., to do a big campaign around the "Anthology" DVD's right now, and/or Paul asked them to hold off because his live tour DVD('s) are due soon.
The only problem that this presents, since it's apparent that Apple does space these projects out, is how long now it will take for the projects that seem to be on the front burner at Apple. We have the "Anthology" DVD set, and the "Let It Be" DVD along with a possible CD counterpart of some sort. Then there is some sort of revamping of the catalog, remixes and/or remastering of the catalog, and/or some sort of surround-sound DVD-Audio sort of releases. I can't envision Apple doing the "Anthology" DVD set, the "Let It Be" DVD and CD, and reissuing the entire catalog all in one year. I'd love to see it all reissued as soon as possible, of course. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
