The issue "around here" has never been about opinions.

Really?

I thought we were all people just sharing and discussing our opinions. That is what good discourse is all about.

Fewer things rile me as much as a) apology threads and b) people who bend over backwards to voice agreement to curry favor with those whom they feel are popular and powerful. I call that a form of emotional fraud. I've gotten on my soapbox in times past about this and it seemed to come up again. I like honest opinions and a myriad of voices so as to learn and modify my own opinions. I respect a falcon, an intelligent bird with clear vision and its own mind. I don't respect a parrot because it just echoes what it hears.

Opinions are vital! And that is my honest opinion!

Yes, BB. Opinions are what Links is about. I'm saying something completely different.

What I'm trying to say is that the "issue here" is not about people voicing opinions. It has nothing to do with people posting an opinion at all, but that the real point has been missed, & missed, & missed because we can't seem to convince people it's ok to post an opinion so that we can get on with the real "issue".

Ah, but it is patently clear that it is NOT okay to post an opinion if that opinion is not all sweetness and light and cute. After all, hasn't there been enough hostility directed towards people who've said less-than-lovely things about Heather? (Oh, wait, I meant SAINT Heather...)

That is just it - it does NOT have to be sweetness, sunshine, and light. I've been on my soapbox moaning about sycophantic agreement. I am sorry for any comments that have made Susan or any other member feel bad in re Heather - I've said all along it is not a requirement to like her or her behavior. All I am interested in doing is seeing that everybody feel free to express their honest opinion.

In the interest of fairness, this thread will remain open so people can have their turn at bat.

I agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on Heather.

What I disagree with is Red Rose Speedway being bombarded with links to gossip stories concerning Heather, just like I would be opposed to gossip articles being posted about Yoko on Menlove Ave or Patty Boyd in Crackerbox Palace Take a look at the language used in the article linked on this thread. It's garbage. How can we have a reasonable and intelligent debate when we get off to a start like that?

I've stated all along that all opinions should be welcome. If we only wanted cute opinions Susan, many of yours wouldn't have been allowed. And no, that's not knocking them, that's acknowledging that they're not cutesy. And that is okay.

But can we please try to get back to the topic at hand, rather then saying who should read, who should comment, what opinion is wrong, is right, etc?

Thanks.

The "hostility" (from most) has not been about the opinions one may have. Opinion is opinion & (most) people can accept it. I have no posts that include sweetness & light & cuteness about Heather either, in case you haven't noticed. And as I've said, I'm no fan, so why is no one being "hostile" to me?

Hmmm, possible proof that it has nothing to do with my opinion???

I agree Matt. Also I don't see the need that everytime there is an article about Heather a new topic is created. I found the timing of these articles interesting, like they were waiting to publish as soon as Paul and Heather got divorced.
I don't care to share my views on Heather, I don't think she is a saint, and I don't think anyone on here does think she is a saint. Nothing wrong with a good discusion, but personally I don't want to jump in on every article and rumour being posted.

It's not what you say, it's how you say it!!!!!
I think that's what people are objecting to here. It's not what any person's opinion is, it's the way it reads!!!!!
That's why I'm not saying much about the topic of this thread as what I want to say in my head always seems to read completely differently!!!!!
Needless to say, the newspaper is the Sun and it's highly likely that they had the pictures of Heather before she was even famous!!!!! I don't know why a paper that has Page 3 girls would describe itself as a "family newspaper"!!!!!
As far as Heather goes, I neither like or dislike her. It doesn't bother me that she posed for those pictures many years ago 'cos it was just that.....many years ago!!!!! I can sort of understand why she lied about it, it's not something you'd want to shout about from the rooftops is it?! But that still doesn't excuse her from it either!!!!!
Well, I've put my two penn'orth in now!!!!!

I agree that if we all have the same opinion on a particular topic or all just back each other up when it is obvious that the only reason we are doing that is to try and win favour, then there is little point to belonging to a board such as this!
And yeah I guess it is also about not what you say but how you say it. But as long as it is clear that we can voice something without fear of being told off for doing so.
BB1964 you hve defo mentioned your pet hate of apology threads - I think once you dedicated a thread to that fact! I am with you on that!! Oooh no now it looks like I am acting out your other hate where someone voices agreement to score points!! I am soooooo not trying to do that!!!

To get on to the topic of the thread, someone might have already mentioned this actually but I am suprised that these pics have only just surfaced now...where were they when Paul and Heather first got together or when they got engaged?? Looks like it was a well kept secret to me. Not anymore!!!

Sometimes I wonder...perhaps it would have been best for everybody and best all around had these pictures never surfaced.

It's sad when unfortunate things from a person's past comes back to haunt them...people change; they mature and develop new outlooks. In fairness, when people have moved past a certain point in their lives, give them credit where it's due and cut them some slack.
