I remember when all the guys at my junior-high school were sporting "Beatle boots". They were all the rage. Tight levi's (flood)pants and exact copies of the Beatles shoes. We were all just too cool!!
Let's see now...how many years ago...????

I don't know what they were called anywhere else, but in England they were called winklepickers.

Those were also the boots which I thought of at first, those which you also see in the outlook of the Anthology book, but I read in the Anthology book another reference to the period as required. Black outfit, and these string shoes, page 44 or so of the book with picture.

Siobhan has given the correct name for those fashionable shoes. The Winkle-pickers were named after the winkle, a small, edible sea snail which, presumably, could almost be pierced by the shoe's pointed toes.
