I'll bid! Oops... done it again...

Well, it does look a bit of a looker, I'll agree.

Can't buy me love... But for 15 million you CAN buy the house where John Lennon wrote some of the Beatles greatest hits

Beatles fans with very deep pockets are being given the chance to own the house where John Lennon wrote some of the band's most famous songs. The beautiful mock Tudor mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, was home to Lennon and his first wife Cynthia between 1964 and 1968.

Default It was such a long long time ago

That house has been through a few hands since John lived there, hasn't it? I wonder how much is left of how it was when he lived there.

Have you ever read the Kenwood blog? It's amazing. He goes into pretty obsessive detail about the renovations and changes.

I think I've been there some time or another - doesn't he have some page about Yoko's all white room with the grand piano? -but I always get lost on big blogs so rarely discover everything there is to see.

I thought the white room was at Tittenhurst. I could be wrong though.

Tell you what--if we all pitch in a tenner perhaps we could buy a couple of tiles from Kenwood and share them--like a timeshare, but instead an art piece that floats around in its various owners' homes for a period of time each year.

I love it... it could be like the acetate of In Spite of All the Danger that got passed around all of Liverpool by the Quarry Men and their hangers-on. And maybe one day Paul would buy them off of us for a million quid.

The Kenwood web site is great. They mention on that site something that has been troubling me.
Quote:
"It should be remembered that Kenwood has no listed status, and whoever buys it would, in theory, be able to "do a Kinnie" (ie demolish it in order to build another, even bigger house), something happening more and more often on St George's Hill these days. Which is slightly worrying, I suppose."
I presume from that that they are saying Kinfauns was demolished which I wasn't aware of.

I would say that Kenwood is of great heritage significance as Lennon and Macca both wrote a lot of great Beatle songs here.

I guess the reason it won't get any protected status is it's on a private estate where the public can't visit it.

Here's the estate agents link which I tracked down http://search.knightfrank.com/cho110077

Actually I just had a brain wave. I wonder if Yoko would buy it for posterity. Perhaps a petition is in order.

Yeah, you're right... she had to buy Mendips after all. Something tells me she wouldn't shell out the hefty cost for Kenwood, though. Luckily, the last few owners have maintained many of the elements of John's 1964 remodel, like the infamous sunroom, but who knows how much longer that will hold out.

On a random side note... if you're looking for a piece of rock-related real estate, how about the Stoner Shack from Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke? A bit more affordable, but looks like you'd have to double the cost of the home just to upgrade it.

Default The Stoner Shack...

...there are actually some lovely features. But that kitchen tile...my god, we had the same damn kitchen tile in my childhood home in the 70's. Talk about flashback, man. Avocado refrigerator to match the tile, brown shag rug in the living room and orange living room walls.

And Dad's avocado recliner.

Oh god make it stop, make it stop...

Focus, girl, focus...

And yet another Beatle-related real estate listing... the She Said, She Said house.

Definitely needs an updating... I'd love to turn it into a retro palace. The place has amazing views and "great bones," as they like to say. I've driven by it a zillion times... it was on my "Bizarre L.A." tour that I'd take out-of-town guests on... and it's just up the canyon from the Helter Skelter/Manson murders house.

I had no idea that the infamous "She Said, She Said" incident happened at Zsa Zsa Gabor's house. Good god.

I know... and by the looks of the house in its current state of tacky decor, it looks like Zsa Zsa still lives there!

Whoever booked the Beatles houses while in L.A. (Neil?) always chose the squarest parts of town. They should've been in Laurel Canyon or Malibu... not friggin' Beverly Hills or Bel Air with all the lawyers, film execs, and fading Hollywood stars.

Default Typical touristy mistake on Nell's part.

As an Englishman in those days, that's probably the only ritzy LA neighborhood he'd ever heard of.
