On a slightly more serious note, I enjoy their spirited music and fun personalities very much. Who can forget their legendary, whip-lashing performance of 'The Legend of Xanadu' on Top of The Pops in 1968 . What is your favourite song?

Oh, I'm sorry, but I don't know the song "The legend of Xanadu" ?? But I remember very well the song "Zabadak" . It's true that they have unusual names...
... how right you are! Thank you for posting the YouTube clip! It is always a pleasure to watch it. I also enjoyed reading the TOTP captions, particularly the part when it said: "In 1962 they made their name in the beat clubs of Hamburg". They have something in common with the Beatles!
Ahhh... I really like the introduction to the song when Dave Dee speaks in sultry Spanish and dramatically whispers "Esta es la leyenda de Xanadu" (which, I think, means 'This is the legend of Xanadu'). If he was there, I certainly wouldn't mind returning to that "black barren land" because he won both the duel AND my heart in Xanadu! Just the sound of the music makes me want to smile and I especially like it when he swiftly sings:
"And the foot prints leave no traces,
Only shadows move in places where we used to goooo,
And the buildings open to the sky,
All echo in the vultures cry as if to shoooow".
I read that “Dozy” is a Dutch surname. Do you know if this is correct, FPSHOT?

It would have been Dave's birthday tomorrow. I would like to express my appreciation of this great showman. He is sadly missed and will never be forgotton.
