Stories about George
Story No. 1:
George always loved this candy called jelly babies, and John wrote this note to himself about how much George loved them. Apparently, some news reporter found the note and put it in his news column. At the Beatles' next concert, from then on, girls were throwing jelly babies at George. It was a horror because it would always plunk a bad note off his guitar. To make things worse, they were on a circular stage, so it was coming at them from ALL SIDES!
After a concert one time, John, Paul, and Ringo managed to get in the car before they were trampled down by all the fans. George was hiding in the bathroom, when a friend of his came in. George told him about the situation, and the friend got their driver to strip down to the waist. He gave the clothes to George, who put them on, and went out to the car, and everyone saw him, but nobody guessed it was him. The other Beatles howled with laughter when they saw him, because George was so skinny and scrawny, and the driver's uniform was so big.
When George fell in love with Pattie, they wanted to keep it a secret, but somehow, the press found out. At that time, John was married to Cynthia. The press was waiting downstairs in the hotel lobby. As soon as John and George came down, the reporters started bombing them with questions and taking pictures. "Where are the ladies?" "Come on, John, just one picture with them. We've come a hell of a long way."
"Well so have we!" screamed John. "You've had your f***ing party, now we're getting the f*** out of here!" And with that, John grabbed George's wrist, and together, they belted their way throughout the crowd.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Cynthia and Pattie were disguised as two cleaning maids. They took a cab to the airport where John and George were waiting impatiently. They howled with laughter when they saw them.
As they made their way to the plane, more people were waiting for them. "I guess our secret is out," said George. "Model Pattie Boyd and Beatle George Harrison have become a very nice couple!"
One time George, Pattie, Cynthia, and John were over at their friend's house, who was a dentist. John and George both took LSD, and when they got in the car to go home, the dentist said, "I wouldn't reccommend it after taking LSD."
"We'll be fine," said George. The dentist, however, wasn't convinced. He hailed a cab after them. When George realized they were being followed, he started driving at a breakneck speed, so it was almost like some kind of car chase.
George never liked being famous.

Re: Stories about George
There are some lovley stories about George I like these:
The one about he and Paul hitch hiking as kids down to Devon and meeting two girls who kept them warm on the beach(oh how I wish I was one of them!).
The little switch by his front door he switched every night before he went to bed to turn the moon off.
Y'know all the cool stories you probably all know.
Anymore faves anyone?

In case any of you were wondering, I got all those stories from Dark Horse: The Life and Art of George Harrison, by Geoffrey Giuliano. Great book!

Ah thanks that's nice!
My love of gardening I got from my Mother who is a fanatical gardener, I have read that is is a very English hobby and my love of Indian culture sort of comes from George. I read about his interest and loved the sound of the sitar so years later I dragged my partner (also called George but spelt the Spanish way (Jorge) but pronounced the English way!)to India for a year and fell inlove with the place, even stayed on an ashram in Rishikesh. Beautiful. Plan to go again soon with our little son.

Re: Stories about George
This is a nice George story....I have to use a link, cuz it says it is copyrighted.
http://www.chakra.org/mainpages/obit...g.harrison.htm
It is on the ISKCON In Memoriam page for Sriman George. Sriman is a very high title, great respect. The article of particular interest is called "A Story About George and Srila Prabhupad" by Nanda Kumar Das.
There are a couple words here people may have questions on...
dandavats~ this means literally, "to fall like a stick". It is a gesture a devotee uses to show respect to Lord Krishna or a Guru/saintly person by lying flat on the ground.
Asana~ is a seat or sitting place, as it is used in this article
From the article, it sounds like George got his hair cut after ATMP era specifically to see Srila Prabhupad! This shows a different (ISKCON) approach than George's SRF/Yogananda involement, which is interesting. At SRF long hair is worn by the Guru's (for the most part) for yogic reasons.

I would urge anyone to go to India if they can, it is a life changing experience, whether you were interested in it before or not. Mind you it is not easy to travel around, it is very very poor and basic.
We flew to Delhi and went to Goa for a few weeks on the beach and then went across to Calcutta and then up to Darjeeling to escape the monsoon, then across to Nepal and then back to India and Dharamalsa and then onto Manali and then to Rishikesh (where my member pic was taken which i why I look weather beaten!). We did pilgrimage from Rishikesh to the source of the Ganges and Gammuk, amazing glasier that was, then left and went to Varanasi (my favourite place after Rishikesh) and then onto Rajastan taking in Jaipur, Pushkar and Udaipur where I since found out George and Ravi were there at the same time visiting! Finally back to Goa for Christmas and a rest before flying home! We tended to stop at a lot places for a long while to take it all in.
We visited the little shop where George bought a sitar and there are loads of photos of him around everywhere.
It is very inexpensive to travel there and it cost us about 1000 punds each for everything except the flight which was about 300 pounds.
Honestly the place is surreal in some respects like a big technicolour dream.

It was talked about on the Radio 2 tribute by one of his friends. There also stories of him whizzing around Henley in his fast cars frightening the old ladies on purpose and about his love of word play by saying things like "Who gave Roberta Flack?" You should listen to it there are some wonderful quirky things to learn about him.

Re: Stories about George
I think we can safely say that George was a classic British eccentric.

I heard that radio documentary too, it was great. The play on words quote were e-mails he was sending to friends; "What was William Holding?" was another one.
Great info on India too, thanks!
