Gee, I love some people's priorities... "No, I'm not coming to the parent training on preschool math activities tonight--American Idol is on tonight." And of course their kids are the ones who can't even count to 5.

Mixed messages from the NYC Department of Sanitation! We're getting a nasty winter storm today, sleet, freezing rain, snow, accumulations of 3-6 inches. ALL the news reports are saying "stay off the roads, use public transportation, don't use your cars." Fine -- except that the Dept. of Sanitation did NOT suspend the street cleaning alternate side parking rules today, so in the middle of this mess, I'm going to have to go out and get my car off the street for two hours. It isn't like they're even going to come around with a street sweeper today, either -- all the sanitation workers are too busy preparing the salt spreaders and snowplows -- but if I don't move my car I risk a $135 ticket! I ask you...tell us in one breath not to use our cars, and tell us in the other, oops, too bad, you still have to move your car for alternate side parking, tough! I hate New York at times like this!

Haha, this sounds so familiar! At least we only have street sweeping April - November in my neighborhood, so we don't usually have to deal with this exact issue.

This morning's irritant...I overslept by 11 minutes!

Blah, it looks like I have to go on a business trip on Monday where I'll be leaving my place around 5:30 in the morning and not getting home till 10 or so at night. And driving (or riding when somebody else drives) 5 hours each direction for 2 or 3 hours of meetings...auggggghhhhhh....

Thumbs down

Silly little pet peeve, but I hate it when people make verbs out of "journal" and "scrapbook," as in "Joe and I have been journaling for years," "Sam wanted to do some scrapbooking." For some reason that annoys me. I also think it sounds kind of silly and affected.

I say "keep a journal/write in a journal" and the like and with scrapbooks similar. It seems unnatural to me to convert them into verbs and it just sounds weird to me.

The word "like" used as a filler. How do you "like" do something, as in "he was like driving down Main Street," and the "I'm like..." has been run into the ground into its grave. That damned irritant got old mighty fast!

Another silly peeve I have is when people say "blah blah blah" when they are cutting to the chase. A former co-worker made every other word a string of blahs and that is what soured me on it. I also thought the co-worker in question was a pompous windbag and a Grade-A jerk. Now that I said I didn't like this, watch someone chime in with the blah routine. It's a chance I took.

The neighbor's mutt dropped on the front lawn again.

That's crazy - you'd think they'd put helping their kids first.
In this day and age of technolgy, there's no reason why they couldn't do both. With VCR's and DVD recorders, they could easily watch the show later, or have a friend tape it.

when people say "I'm liking this" instead of "I like this" or "He's loving that" instead of "He loves that",seems to be a new craze to talk like that and its so frigging annoying!

I hate the slang term "Bling". It sounds so stupid.

Bingo! I fully agree with you, 'bling' is a detestable word and i hate it with a passion!

It should be classified as a swearword.

It's worse when adults use it to prove they are "hip".

I first heard it on HGTV, the home of hackneyed decorating cliches.
Some of my favorites are:

it doesn't have that bling
makes it pop
old world charm
and my mom's fave:
bring the outdoors in

As a student of design, I warn everyone who has
a Tuscan villa or old world charm going on, that
look is going to look so dated any time now.

I forgot to include dated . How I hate that one.

Oh, math is obviously not a priority for these parents I deal with who haven't even graduated high school. Math isn't important when you can sit on public aid for the rest of your life instead of getting a job. (And no, I'm not trying to be nasty about everyone on public aid--in these one or two cases I've seen with my own eyes, it holds true.)

To me it's not as bad as "That's so yesterday".
