Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
Time for a new round of songs
Today I was watching some video clips and one was of a Tom Petty song where George played Acoustic guitar and sang harmonies.
The electric and slide guitar is not played by George, but by Mike Campbell, however in the video clip, a guitar of George is used and it is the Stratocaster George used on his 1974 tour and for Free As A Bird.
Ringo is also in the clip although on the record Jim Keltner plays drums.
I Won't Back Down, from the Full Moon Fever album. I actually prefer 'Face In The Crowd' of the same album but that does not have a George involvement so it so does not count for this topic.
Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down.
Well I know what's right, I got just on life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down
Hey baby there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
No, I won't back down

"Face in the Crowd" is good, but I like "Free Fallin'" best. No George there though.
"I Won't Back Down" is a good song. The lyrics aren't too great, but the guitars are excellent. I'm not a big fan of Tom's voice, but he does alright here.

Have you guys ever heard the version of "While my Guitar gently weeps" by Jeff Healy. He is a blind guitar player here in Toronto (he is very good!) and George plays acoustic on it and you can hear him harmonizing too. I think it came out in the late 80's. It is still played here on the radio in Toronto every so often.

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
I like Tom Petty's voice, mind you. I think he does a raspy, classy rock voice, that does justice to his own songs. And that's not always easy. I've loved some past works of his, especially the ones he did with ms. Stevie Nicks like "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", "Insider" and "I Will Run To You"...
This Full Moon Fever album has a lot of great tracks ("Free Fallin'" is one of them), and whilst I don't think that George had a lot to do with the production here (Jeff Lynne got the job), it does have some of that Wilbury sound that most of us know and love. So of course "I Won't Back Down", with the video and all, is excellent and a delight to hear.
(Can you believe it I saw it on MTV Latino about three years ago? Unbelievable - now all they play is System Of A Down and other crappy groups that "kick their heads on a brick wall, hard like a stone")

I love this song...George 'makes' the whole video, too. To me this is pure George (quietly stealing the show, just by being there), just featuring Tom Petty.

"I Won't Back Down" has always been one of my favorite Petty songs, I guess I now know why ! But what's this about a video? Available where? I have never had cable so my videos have to be on VHS or DVD. Could I find it? If so where pray tell?

You can download it at WinMx, I know, but tonight there are 101 folks in que!! I looked for sites with pictures of George from the video, but no luck. What a surprise when you type in ...I won't back down video on Google search Not those type of videos!!! I love this song as well. I've always been a fan of Tom Petty & the HBers but when I learned George played on it, that made it even better. George was always there for his friends, wasn't he?

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
Even though George does not do the slide on this song I have to say I like it. Maybe George was 'helping'. * I have never seen the clip and probably never will (101 in que - and I don't think my music channel ventures that far into good music.) Could someone just describe it for me please (especially the George bits)?

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
Is George in the video for I Won't Back Down? My memory on this is a little hazy but I think he's not. But I do believe Mike Campbell is playing George's psychedelic guitar circa MMT time. However, Ringo is in the video Beatle People.

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
George is in the video too. My memory of it is a little hazy as I haven't seen it in a long while (I have it buried away somewhere on an old VHS tape) but George is definitely there. He is playing guitar in the video with the band against a black setting. Ringo is on drums, and he has a few of his own comedy moments. It is a great video, and came as a pleasant surprise to me when I first saw it as I didn't know of George's involvement on the song then. Great song too. I don't have the album, but it's on my list of things to get.

Okay serious
It is a dark stage and you see the band
Mike Campbell on guitar, not always the George Guitar, Tom up front, Ringo in the middle and Jeff (bass) and George (acoustic) together on one mike, George right hand side
1. George stands still like a statue while the others play, grey suit (Perkins one?)
2. George moves, dancing with his legs
3. Ringo is on a lot, behind Tom
4. George leans with right arm on Jeff, puts right foot over (his) left
5. 'stand my ground'that part, George moves from right to left and back again, nothing new
6. Chorus -> view on George and Jeff
7. George playing acoustic, moving from tight to left, as us usual
8. ooohhh's, nice shot from below on Jeorge and Geff
9. Ringo walking with 'the earth bowl' like in When We Was Fab however from left to right
10. Ringo fixing a hole in the earth globe
11. Ringo looking through the hole
12. Mike doing the slide solo on George's guitar
13. Backing vocals shown from George (now in black/brown shirt) and Jeff
14. Tom holding picture album with George/Jeff on one side and Ringo on the other (in what I believe is a Ringo All Stars Band shirt)
15. Ringo in the globe again
16. Pictures now being mixed to the end of the song
17. End part George doing the 'Oooohs' and Jeff the "I won't back down repeats'
That's about it.

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
Thanks FPSHOT. Sounds like he is in it quite a bit. I've have never had any success with WinMX. I'm not very computer savvy but I never had much trouble with Napster. Downloaded quite a bit from there. I'll have to make the effort to try again.

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
On WinMX better look for the title because it is listed at various names (Petty, Traveling Wilburys, George Harrison)

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
After quite some time I picked up the acoustic guitar again today and played some Harrisongs, like Any Road, Beware of Darkness, Your Love Is Forever and then plugged in the electric guitar and played EC's part along with the Bangla Desh Version of Whyle My Guitar.
It felt great and playing music again is like a meditation.
So for TwoDay's song I suggest
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Re: Two day\'s Harrisong suggestion Volume 4
Fantastic song. One of my favorites. For a song George 'forced' himself to write he sure put alot of soul into it. Love the vocals.
btw FPSHOT why hadn't you been playing? I wish I knew how to play an instrument, I could use that kind of therapy.
