Default Paul's 8 favourite records

In 1982 Paul McCartney was interviewed by a BBC radio programme Desert Island Discs. This was a show that asked celebrities what 8 records that would choose if marooned on a desert island. He chose:
  1. Elvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel
  2. Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Sixteen
  3. Benjamin Britten - Courtly Dances (from Gloriana) Orchestra: Julian Bream Consort
  4. Gene Vincent - Be-Bop-A-Lula
  5. John Lennon - Beautiful Boy
  6. The Coasters - Searchin'
  7. Little Richard - Tutti Frutti
  8. Country Ham - Walking In The Park With Eloise
Some surprising ones there.

Searchin' by the The Coasters? Mmmm. That is a very forgettable song.
Heartbreak Hotel over some Elvis' far better songs? mmmmmm. I suppose Heartbreak Hotel must have been a bolt from the blue for those hearing it for the first time when considering what was on offer at the time. The first for Elvis but not the best. Like Love Me Do, a very forgettable song, and soon outstripped by every Beatles song after. Love Me Do disappointed all the bands in Liverpool, who knew The Beatles could do far better than that and they told them so.

That really is a rather unremarkable list considering what they inspired. I realize that Be Bop A Lula was sort of the impetice of the Lennon-McCartney partnership, but what a boring song. That's one of the rare "favorite" lists that doesn't contain a Beatles song.

I know what you mean, but he did say those were his "favorites"...

... maybe, now, someone needs to ask him for his list of 8 "best" records ?
