Andy White session truth?
My question here is about Martin interviews vs McCartney comments in Mark Lewisohns recording session book. Martin has commented that he got burned the first time with Best on drums, implying that he never saw Ringo play or even gave him a chance. Implying that the decision to was made to use Andy White right out of the gate.
On the other hand---------
(paraphrased from Mark Lewisohns book)
McCartney states that Martin apparently didn't like Ringo's drumming, even going so far as to discuss technical reasons why. Citing the bass and kick drums traditional roles as opposed to what he with Ringo would do, as well as time fluxuations.
It appears to me Martin has edited history here, and the reasons why are obvious.......My preference the truth........
Great session player Kenny Aronoff wasn't allowed to play on the first John Couger record, but he worked and got his game together. Recording and playing live are two different things, I suspect there was a learning curve with Ringo as well. That said Ringo's playing on early Beatle records IMO is fantastic, and maybe Martin was just plain wrong......
Thoughts? Definitive answers?
