Default simplicity

Sometimes I find the simplicity of the Beatle lyrics startling

they are so stark

yet have so much much spiritual

and emotional depth

these words reach straight into your soul

and when combined with the music

become almost indescribably beautiful

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

It's been a long long long time
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you

It took a long long long time
Now I'm so happy I found you
How I love you

So many tears I was searching
So many tears I was wasting, oh oh

Now I can see you, be you
How can I ever misplace you
How I want you
Oh I love you
Your know that I need you
Ooh I love you

Because the world is round it turns me on
Because the world is round

Because the wind is high it blows my mind
Because the wind is high

Love is all, love is new
Love is all, love is you

Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry
Because the sky is blue

Those 3 songs have always been favourites of mine, lyrically. "Long Long Long" is sooo underappreciated! It's haunting.

i agree. an elegant simplicity is one of the best things the beatles' songs have going for them. who else could get away with singing "nah, nah, nah, nah-nah-nah nah" and make it a classic?

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.
And when the night is cloudy,
There is a light that shines on me,
Shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music,
Mother Mary comes to me,
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
And I say itís all right.
Little darling itís been a long cold lonely winter,
Little darling it feels like years since itís been here.
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
And I say itís all right.
Little darling the smiles returning to their faces,
Little darling it seems like itís years since itís been here,
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
And I say itís all right.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Little darling I feel that ice is slowly melting,
Little darling it seems like years since itís been clear,
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
Itís all right, itís all right.

Yes, the simplicity is amazing and perfect.

Take Love me Do, which could be the simplist lyric of all time, and the music as well but the arrangement and the sounds they created were perfection.

I wonder should I call you but I know what you'd do

You'd say I'm putting you on

But it's no joke

It's doing me harm

you know I can't sleep

I can't stop my brain, you know it's three weeks

I'm going insane

You know I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind

The interplay between the two, extremely simple, sets of lyrics to "I've got a Feeling" just gets me every time. Talk about a whole being greater than the sum of its parts... (guess my sig. gives my feelings about this song away).

I'm so tired

I haven't slept a wink

My mind is on the blink

you want her you need her
and you don't believe her
when she says her love is dead
you think she needs you

I love the lyrics to this song---especially when he sings,
'You stay home,
She goes out'

Jeez, I remember how that felt.... and he calls it up with six one syllable words; Dylan couldn't have said it any better.

The Beatles, like Dylan, were the poets of our generation, simple, yes, spiritual, yes, yes, yes. They nourished our souls and minds at a time when there wasn't much else illuminating in the air, except for maybe the beat writers and artist.
