Default Liverpool Beatleweek 2007

Who's going to this years Beatleweek in Liverpool?

Personally I'm not going. I never do anything up there now anyway except sit around bored, and the prices have become astronomical - 200 for 3 days stay at the self-catering Grand Unite!

And I would NOT recommend staying at the Tudor Close student digs. It's about 10 minutes walk to get to and fro from, it's up a gradual hill and you're sharing the single toilet and shower with about 4 or 5 strangers. when I stayed there in 2005 I had my mattress pushed up against the door when I was sleeping because all you could hear outside were people walking around and shouting all night. It was scary!

My problem is that I'm not a fan of tribute bands, and that is what the festival is so heavily focussed upon. They have tribute bands playing anywhere and everywhere all hours of the day and it's just the same bands playing the same songs. After the second time it just gets samey. The Beatleweek should cater for other interests as well such as talks about history, collecting etc etc, maybe a workshop where a tribute band takes a number of people in and let them use their instruments or to teach them how to play Beatle songs or something, one band could let people at the festival have a go on their instruments and have like a kind of band-jam session... There could be so much going on to cater for the people who don't like tribute bands because they aren't going to spend over 200 to see the bands they've already seen numerous times in the past.

But to whoever here does go - have a great time!

Harb I hear what you're saying....I don't get the tribute band thing, it doesn't do it for me. Maybe if there is a really good one, seeing one might be alright but tribute after tribute after tribute....well, I'd rather pass.
But what if a group of us UK Linkers arrange a little get together and do our own thing there this year? I know some of you have done this other years but maybe we can try and organise something really exciting this year? Might you be persuaded in to going if we did that??
What do you all reckon?
I hadn't really thought about going actually.
Maybe we can arrange our very own little Beatle week!!

The trouble with that is that in the past I've tried to make arrangements for a little BeatleLink get together, but they just never seem to work out. Last year we were all agreeing on times and places to meet up, but in the end the only person who I saw was SandySunshine.

Thumbs up

Eh? Were we at the same festival? My suggestion would be to actually move around a bit more! Yes there are stages for cover bands, but over the past couple of years the festival has been concentrating on stages for "real" acts and local talent as well. Last year I seen The Proclaimers, Lightning Seeds, Shack, The Christians, Pete Wylie and Tramp Attack- not to mention a blistering set from The Buzzcocks the year before- AND all for free!!!
To be honest though, its all gone a bit "big" for me but the best bit of advice i could probably give (being a local lad) is bring your own coolerbags- food and beer, dont even attempt to get in any of the bars- its a nightmare, and just plan in advance what stage you want to move around to. There will be a full itinerary available on the website beforehand. Eat , Drink and be merry-and above all have fun.
Those on a budget I would recommend:
Travelodge and Travel Inn- city centre
Ibis, Dolby and Campanile- also Travelodge - Albert dock area.

Anyone one who wants any info/recommedations feel free to email me on willp5000@hotmail.com.

Yeah things like that always fall apart! But maybe if we planned it really early it might work out this time?

Or even if we planned a little get together at a totally different time, not even during the Beatle Week?

I'm actually planning a trip that way this year. I'm due for a visit to see my family in Manchester and I thought the best time would be around August. About two weeks into the intial planning did I realize I'd be around just in time for Beatleweek.

So yeah, I'm officially planning my trip around Beatleweek. :)
