Purchase Near expired Foods?
Do you purchase food that is close to expired to grab big bargains? is that bad for us if its day or few days before it expires?

I think it's ok if you are going to eat or drink it right away. If I know I'm not going to eat/drink it immediately, I say forget it!

Many things that we buy can be near the expiration date and not harm you such as canned goods. The only downside is the quality may be affected. The two things that I do not buy if they are near the expiration date are:
1. Dairy products such as milk. More then once I have purchased fresh half and half only to find out that it soured in a day or two. But this happens mostly in the summer.
2. Bakery products....mostly because I don't like stale bread.

I have vivid memories of my mom always going to the "bargain bins" and the "day-old bread" bins at the grocery store when I was a kid. That black Sharpie marker slash across the packaging is forever imprinted on my brain....
For this reason alone - never mind the health implications - I NEVER EVER buy any food that is near expiration. I am one of those people who digs and digs deep into the shelves to find the absolute latest expiration dates.
