Who designed The Beatles logo?
Of all the things I've ever wanted to know about The Beatles, and being partial because I am a designer as well, the one thing I have never been able to find out any information on is their logo.
Who designed it? Did the band have anything to do with it? Did they care? It may seem insignificant to some I suppose, but it is/was a representation of the band, albeit in typeface form. Does anyone else know any other info?

i have exactly zero information on that, but i do know that John was an artist, and he "coined" the phrase Beatles.

it was ivor abiter that was sent a number of swatches from the ludwig company of oyster black pearl.
ringo saw the pearl and liked it and agreed to switch to ludwig drums if ivor put the pearl on the premier set.
brian epstein wanted the beatles name to be bigger than the ludwig logo so ivor drew out an exaggerated capitol b and a capitol t on a piece of stationary.which became the commonly known logo.

I thought I read somewhere that Paul sketched it out to show somebody. I dont remember if it that means he thought of it or if it was the drop T logo, but I thought he drew it out at one point.

What a great question! Ivor Abiter should be in the design hall of fame!

It's more or less as Serena has stated. The big B and T served the purpose of highlighting the word "Beat" in the group's name. Ivor Arbiter quickly drew a couple of sketches, and when it was decided it was all right he took it to a sign painter there was nearby, called Eddie Stokes, who used to work for Arbiter painting logos on bass drums skins, who polished the design. The original piece of paper on which Arbiter doodled his logo was thrown, so the contribution of each of these men is not really known, and the right thing would be to credit them both with the design. The only thing known for sure about Arbiter's original sketch is that the long B and T were already there.

I'd heard the same thing that Serena did. I think it may have been at Beatlefest tha I heard that when the Beatles Gear book had just come out.

This is a good question. I've long wondered that myself.
