I have a question wallrus. You work in radio...do you think some of John's demos, of properly cleaned up/instrumentally dubbed, etc.- could actually get some attention?
|
i think so ...but folks start to get jaded and think "oh they are wringing him out for all he's worth" or such...some folks feel that way already.

I know. I'm tired of their useless opinions. If they're really bothered they need to switch the station. Beautiful music should be shared and enjoyed by those who care.

It sounds like he knows he's been successful in the past, but maybe he's getting tired of having to keep dealing with the same issues.
He probably wrote it around the time that he "nearly fell for a tv preacher." That would be my guess anyway. But I also have another thought... I also always wondered if this was one of those "Ballad of John and Yoko" Broadway songs and that John was going to use it for the time in his life right before he met Yoko.

I think this too!!!!! I think John was trying out various ways to cope with his extremes and wanted to release that negative energy in some way. So those songs, to me, were an escape as well as his very brilliant talent showing that he could write personal songs that everyone could find a f*****g thing in common with.
I wish I had some way of knowing what songs were specifically for that musical. Would be fun to know, just to get into where his mind was when he was writing it.

Omg, so would I... sh!t like that makes me so mad he's not here to answer all these unanswered questions. Another thing I would love is to hear how he would reassess his songs... I wonder if he would have learned to be really satisfied and proud of some of the ones he dismissed.

I think he would have. If he saw and heard how so many modern day artists were influenced by even ONE of his "garbage" songs he would probably retract some of the nastiness and learn to love his accmplishments more.

But would he have Bieber fever if he were alive today? (ducks).
No, I too wonder about how many of these songs used to prove that his marriage sucked and he was suicidally depressed and a total whack job during the Househusband years were intended for some other project? We'll never really know, I guess.
