Hi Emma! I know that there are some British b-linkers who might be able to assist you better, but I actually just returned frommy vacation to London and Liverpool, so I can tell you about my experience. We actually took a National Express bus from London to Liverpool. The tickets are rather inexpensive if you book them online prior to your trip. Depending on traffic, the trip takes roughly 4 and a half to 5 hours to make. People also take the train from London to Liverpool, or you could fly there if you like.
If you're going to Liverpool, my main recommendation would be that you have to make a visit to Mendips (John's childhood home), and 20 Forthlin Rd (Paul's childhood home). Both are National Trust homes, and you can visit the National Trust website for a phone number to call so that you can book your tickets (they recommend that you bookyour tickets in advance). In my opionion, this is one thing on a Beatles trek that simply cannot be missed. My other recommendation is that you get a mapof Liverpool when you get there, and have some of the addresses to special Beatles sites written down,so that you can find them when you're there. Hope this is helpful. You will have a wonderful time!!

The easist method is by train I guess since it's readily available and if you get the right train can get you right to Lime Street Station. However, the UK train system can be a little tricky and time restricting, especially if the trains aren't on time. But there's never a dead-end with trains. Once you have a ticket you can pretty much go on any train as long as they're going towards your destination. Flying may also be an option but I have no real idea on times or anything with that.
How long does it take to reach there?
You're probably looking at about 6-7 hours by train to get from London to Liverpool. I'm not sure if they do local flights from London to Liverpool but that would be a trip of around half an hour?
any tips for visiting Liverpool
If you leave Lime Street Station leave where there are steps going down. Then turn left and walk straight down the main street until you get to the Adelphi hotel. From there turn right towards the town center. There should be sign posts directing you - try and find the Cavern City Walks shopping center since the CCT offices are there and can help you with finding all the other places like Mathew Street and the Docks (where the Beatles Story is found).

You can go by train from Euston station in London. Trains are costing some 50 pounds, though, so if you have a low budget, you can also take the bus to Liverpool from Victoria Station for about 10 pounds.
How long does it take to reach there?
By train it's some 3 hours... By bus it's 5 or 6, depending on traffic.

In front of ther Albert Dock there is a small hotel called Formule 1. It's cheap and comfortable. The Holiday Inn is in the dock itself. For information, there is a tourist centre on Queens Street and another on the Albert Dock. Most of the city's tourism is Beatle related, so you'll have no problem there. Another good thing to do in Liverpool is take the Ferry 'Cross the Mersey and take nice shots of the docks!! It's about 5 pounds, I think...

I've done the trip from Devon to Liverpool 4 times now (it's roughly the same distance) and if it only took that amount of time I'd be a happy person. :-P
Usually it takes me around 5 and a half hours from start to finish on train. I really wouldn't recommend the bus. I took it one year because of money restrictions and it took me over 12 hours to get from start to finish n(Started at 7.15am and didn't get to Liverpool until about 7.30pm). Then there was the journey home again!

It seems I'll take a train because I cannot stay in Liverpool overnight,so I have to save time to be able to enjoy the city I dream to see !
I guess if i take the train to Liverpool earli in the morning and I'll be lucky then I'll see at least the most important places of the city (Cavern, etc)...
I'm sooooo excited about my trip to UK ! I've never been there before ...
Can't wait !!!!!

You'd have to leave really early in the morning to get to Liverpool in time to have any decent sort of look around. Most of the day will be spent sitting on the train there and back. It'd have to be something like 7am get on train, 12pm get to Liverpool, 4pm get back on train and 10pm get back to London.

Only 2 and a half hours! Woah, must be a dedicated line. I wish we had one of those down where I live! I got to get on the train from Newton Abbot all the way up to Birmingham New Street, then another 45 minute train journey from there to Liverpool Lime Street.

A high speed train with no changes is obviously going to be a lot quicker than a train from Devon via Birmingham. So I think you can trust the ad.
Since you're not in Liverpool for very long then what you've found seems ideal since the coach tour will mean you get to see a maximum of the sites and you'll meet other people on the bus who are interested in The Beatles.
Don't forget to let us know what it was like.
When do you go?

Yeah, Devon is right on the end of the main line - Plymouth to Glasgow with loads of stops in between and one change at Birmingham. The 2.5 hour job must be a high-speed dedicated journey without stops.
Devon is about 200+ miles away from London. It takes me about 5 hours to travel there by train.

It takes me 5 and a half hours to get to Liverpool by train and I usually have to change two or three times!!! It costs me a small fortune too!!! However, it's now possible to fly from Bournemouth to Liverpool, which is considerably cheaper and only takes 90minutes!!!!! So I would imagine that if you can fly from Bournemouth to Liverpool, you must be able to fly from London to Liverpool too!!!!!
