Default Beatles characters in Rock Band

Okay... call me a purist, but I would have hoped for more look-alike "cartoon" characters for The Fab Four's debut in Rock Band.
They appear not too far off of those old Hanna-Barbera cartoon ones.

I really enjoy playing it (although I'm not HALF as fast or good at it as my son or husband) :(

Still, again.... I wish with ALL the $$$$$$$ they had available to them, that they had spent a bit more time and had been a bit more careful with their overall look.

It's not as aesthetically pleasing as it surely could have been.

Hmmmmm... I tend to disagree.

I don't have the game but I have played it a few times, and I think the characters looked pretty darn good.

If I had disposable cash, I'd buy the game just to watch the "performances"! I thought it was that good, visually.

Now I didn't say they were "dead grotty" ... but seriously, for this being a Beatles "Guitar Hero" kinda thingy... they had all the money in the world for this project and the ability to secure the best artists in the industry... well, maybe I expect too much --- especially after seeing Avatar.

Not sure if you have played any of the other band-centered rhythm games (Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, etc.), but in comparison to those and all the other games of this type, the Beatles themselves look phenomenal. Not to mention, there really is no home gaming system that could support Avatar-like realism. Console games are just not that advanced yet.

HI!

Well, having a son of that "video age" we've got every band video that ever was here!

I agree with you -- The Beatles Rock Band is by far superior in quality.

Maybe it's a "chick thing" but still... a little more oooompf from the artists woulda been nice - in my opinion.

I remember some interview where they said they didn't want to make them look "hyper-realistic".

EDIT: Here it is:

Quote:
BL: Was there every any consideration of going with a hyper-realistic look, or was it always sort of a toned-down, Rock Band, cartoony version?

JR: I think that we very early on realized that the closer you get to hyper-real, the closer you get to the Uncanny Valley, where it's like the closer it gets to human, but is not, your brain is like, Hey, that's not a human! and instantly picks it out. So, we were all really concerned about that. We didn't want these guys to be creepy. We wanted them to be cute and lovable and have all the charisma that the real guys do. If you watch these guys play live, there's just so much joy that pours out of these guys, and they're so clever. They always seemed like they had some sort of inside joke while they were playing, little smirks and things like that. So we really tried to go in and identify that stuff, and sort of put that into our characters. But I think if we had gone for a more realistic thing, it just would've come off creepy. You just can't do it yet. Maybe at some point your brain will not care, but right now, it's like, especially if there are still movies that are kind of creepy in that way when they try to make 3-D humans, trying to do it on a game console is really hard.

And George's sexy wavy hair and deep set Harrison eyes. Damn, that Beatle was fine!

Oh, and George in the striped trousers! I thought we'd have to call the fire department to hose our Link Ladies off!

and the fireman rushes in.....

George in his striped trousers and orange shirt on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in '68 was a totally drool-able episode.

George was yummalicious on that 9/14/68 episode of the Smothers Brothers. George always liked weird clothes and the ruffled shirt and the striped trousers (Cloud, I KNOW what you are thinking, you hornbag! ) was just too damn fine! And best of all was that wavy mop of Beatle coiffed wavy hair!

Damn, he was fine!

I'd have to say I like the look. I just need more songs.

For being a video game and trying to copy the exact look I think they did a great job at making the characters.

I strongly disagree. I think the visuals put into Beatles RB are amazing. When I first played this game and thought "Whoa... Paul actually looks really cute in this game" I thought I was crazy LOL. Not in the bad sense though (because Paul is ALWAYS cute ;) ), but the fact that they were able to make him, and all of them, look so much alike.

Yeah yeah yeah!

Really, I saw the game in youtube, and I think that the graphics are really great!

George is the one who I think it's drawn perfectly, same as John...

Paul didn't look like him...

The game is amazing and I enjoy playing it. Has ANYONE heard if Paul and Ringo liked it? I saw Dhani when he first introduced it... and said they didn't want anyone to see them play it.

:)
