Canadian Capitol Albums
Hello There;
I live in Montreal Canada and I don't know if anyone is aware of this but there are a couple of differences in the Canadian album releases that sets them apart from the U.S. and U.K. releases!
First of all the first album is called Beatlemania and has the exact same track listing as the British "With The Beatles".
The second Canadian album was called Twist And Shout and had a mostly black and white cover of the Beatles jumping over a rooftop. The track list was similar to the Please Please Me album in the U.K. and the Early Beatles album in the States.
Another interesting note is that Canada had an album called Long Tall Sally
which had a similar track listing to the Beatles Second Album in the U.S.and the exact same cover.
Canada also had the United Artists Hard Days Night. After that everything is pretty uniform with the U.S.
I hope that one day Canadian Capitol Records will see fit to release some of these albums on cd that were unique to Canada.
Thanks for reading!

That's interesting.
I doubt they'll be released though on CD.Don't throw away your vinyls!
By the way did they have any different number one singles in Canada?

I have that album also. I picked it up several years ago at a flea market.

Who knows, maybe Capital of Canada will release Beatlemania, Twist and Shout and Long Tall Sally as a boxed set. Possibly with A Hard Days Night as well.
They can't release them as individual CD as that wouldn't be consistant with Apple's plan to have the British titles as the official catalogue.
Boxed sets can be released as outside of the catalogue.

Yup, Capitol Canada loved the Beatles and even released the early singles (that Capitol America passed on) on their label, so there are Capitol presses of Love Me Do, From Me To You and She Loves You out there!
The first three LP were released on the T5000 series which Capitol Canada reserved for what they considered to be top acts (and featured quite a few British artists too such as the Dave Clark Five). After that they were pretty much forced into releasing the exact same albums as Capitol America did which ultimately created the Canadian Butcher Cover. Only 3 or so exist but they're out there!

I was just getting over havng to buy the Capitol Albums box sets and now if they release that... :cuss:
hehe, jk, I'm glad they standardized the catalogue now, but sometimes it seems like it's all getting out of hand with all the rereleased capitol albums :( i don't know why but it just does :(

I wonder since the Canadian releases followed the American issues of compilations, were the mixes the same? Did Canada get the echoey mixes that we got down here in the US? Or were they the British mixes?

According to here the mixes used on the Capitol Canada releases were the original UK mono mixes (no stereo copies of the first three CoC albums were ever released).
This is a good page, it lists all of the different mixes out there on the UK, US and Canadian presses.

So the Canadians used the Brit mono mixes for the first three releases and then the Brit stereo for everything else. Shame those records never were imported into the US. I guess they would still be a collecters item. British mixes, American titles and Canadian pressings. Talk about international flavor.

Not that I'm Aware
As far as I know, there were only 3 unique Canadian Capitol albums: Beatlemania (same as the UK "With the Beatles"), Twist and Shout (variation of the UK "Please Please Me"), and Long Tall Sally (variation of the US "Beatles Second Album").
The Beatlemania LP was released here in November '63. I suspect Capitol may have been using Canada as a test for the US market, where Meet the Beatles was released in Jan '64. There was quite a buzz in these parts about the band in late 1963, a couple months prior to the group's US breakout.

Yes, it was released on Polydor in 1969 and included the Tony Sheridan material. The cover was also cited as a Paul Is Dead clue, since it pictured four candles three of which were lit and one which had blown out.
Also in 1980, Capitol Canada released the compilation Beatles Ballads which was released in the same form in the UK but was never released in the US.

They originally only came out in mono, but in the early 80’s Capitol Canada came out with limited stereo copies which are highly collectable.
Here’s my stereo copy, along with the Dr. Ebbetts CD, which was also never officially released.
Here are my 3 original mono LPs, as well as the Canadian Mono MMT LP
