You would think that this would have been debunkend by now.
First there wasn't any sessions with Pink Floyd, or just Syd with the Beatles in 1967. Second "What's The Mary Jane" was recorded in 1968. This is the same version as on Anthology or on bootlegs, only the quality is not so great and the tempo isn't right, it runs slower.

I read your original post, and this one seems a bit nicer then what you first said. Still mostly I haven't got a clue of what you say.

WHAT'S THE NEW MARY JANE / WHAT A SHAME MARY JANE
John Lennon, the Beatles 1968

'What the New Mary Jane' was an unreleased Beatles song untill the release of Beatles Anthology 3. An early version was titled 'What's a Shame Mary Jane'. Beatles and Pink Floyd were both recording in the Abbey Road Studios and it sounds like Syd Barrett had more than a little influence on this song

and it sounds like Syd Barrett

He is however not but only John&George

Fact is Syd sings not the Leadvocal ok

You know what? Since this thread is about a specific recording, I'm going to move it to And Your Bird Can Sing.

Anyway it is the 1968 version. How can Syd sing along in 1967 during a session of "Sgt. Peppers" and "Piper at the gates", when the song was recorded in 1968?

in not saying he was at the sessions or anything mabie he just sang to a backing tape did you actually listen to it ? even slowed down thats not johns voice especially at the end but its cool i dont want to argue or anything but its a take i never heared and to me it doesnt sound like john and i guess those pink floyd discography sites have it wrong when did john record the accoustical version of it at Georges house? early feb 1968? its very possible it was written in 67

I'm sure Pink Floyd participated in the recording of this song. 100% sure.

Yes I actually listened to it, and it is clearly John. I've heard the version before, It's almost the same as on Anthology but it has been tampered with.
And there is no Pink Floyd involvement in this at all.
The song has been recorded in August 1968, there is an earlier acoustic version, recorded, at George's house from spring that year.

While i doubt its Syd, (It would be cool tho!) heres a fun fact for the day.. at the end of "Eclipse" on Dark Side Of the Moon, after the guy says "matter of fact its all dark", if you listen real close (or on headphones) you can hear an instrumental of "Ticket To Ride" that was playing on the radio at the time and got on the recording... Im not sure if that's a well known fact for floyd fans (probably is) but this one is more well known.. Paul was originally interviewed for to be one of the voices on "money" but it wasnt used.

That concludes todays edition of Joe's Fun Facts

Thumbs up

I do know this version of WTNMJ was performed by Pink Floyd. By that time Pink Floyd was sessioning at Abbey Road, near The Beatles were. A couple of years ago, I had a radio station program 'bout Beatles and somes friends of mine had another program 'bout Pink Floy here in Arequipa, Perú and they told me the story 'bout this version and they even let me hear that recording; so I think it might be true.

If I just heard that without seeing this posts there's no doubt I would know it was John straight away. Sounds exactly like him and even the laughter in the back is the same as the anthology.
