Macca: Lay off my wife
From The Sun - it actually made the first page! (here's the link for the story)
Macca: Lay off my wife
By VICTORIA NEWTON
Showbiz Editor
SIR Paul McCartney last night made an amazing phone call to The Sun to blast critics of his wife Heather.
The fuming star insisted: “I’m not some stupid old man who fell for someone who looks good.”
The ex-Beatle telephoned The Sun to hit back at critics who constantly attack second wife Heather — who, at 36, is 25 years his junior.
He said in an emotional call: “Heather’s a good person who does amazing things to help people. We are a normal family, trying to do normal things. I’m not some stupid old man who fell for someone who looks good.
“That’s rubbish. I’m not stupid. I wouldn’t marry someone for their looks — they’d have to have a lot more than that.” Sir Paul, 61, added:
My wife is a really good woman, but people don’t like to accept that.
Heather is a really decent person. All she does is good things.
I see the other side of her that people don’t see because I’m married to her.
She actually bothers to get up off her backside and do things to help people.
She can make young girls who have lost a leg get their confidence back. I can’t do that, and there are very few people on this Earth who can.
Heather, who gave birth to the star’s daughter Beatrice in London last October, lost her own left leg in 1993 in an accident with a police motorcycle.
She has done tireless work for amputees ever since.
Sir Paul told how she recently dropped everything to help a stricken teenage girl in Liverpool.
He said: “A few months ago this 13-year-old girl was pushed in front of a train by some yobs and lost her leg. As soon as Heather found out, we went up to Liverpool and Heather took her for swimming lessons.
“She gave that young girl the confidence to carry on. Once again, it’s not something I could do. She’s doing things like that every single day.
“She doesn’t take one single penny, but she counsels these kids. She’s a real good ’un.”
Sir Paul, who has four children by his late wife Linda, also insisted Heather — formerly model Heather Mills — DOES get on with his fashion designer daughter Stella, 32.
Rumours have spread that the pair are at war.
But Sir Paul, who met Heather in 1999 and married her in June, 2002, insisted: “I’m sick of people saying Heather and Stella don’t get on — the truth is they do.” He added:
Stella was round at ours the other day seeing our baby girl — and Heather and I had a great time at Stella’s wedding.
We were dancing there until the early hours, although it was written that we left early to go to bed.
Heather is always going into Stella’s shop to buy things.
She bought all her friends Stella’s perfume as presents. There’s no problem between them.
We are just a normal family trying to go about as ordinary a life as possible.
The truth is, Heather never seeks publicity for all the work she does with her landmines charity. And yet all that people do is knock her.
They don’t see all of the things that she does without asking for any thanks or recognition.
He added: “We’re a normal family now, we’ve got a baby daughter and I don’t want her being brought up into this. My wife is a good person.”

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
Well, if he actually did say this, good for him! My husband always stands up for me and I think it's a very nice thing for Paul to do.
Don't know that he would sound off in this way, but would not be at all surprised if this is how he feels.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
I applaud Paul for defending Heather. I've said all along that I don't like it when people come down hard on her. I think she is a good woman who has taken a major loss and turned it into a way of helping other people and inspiring hope and confidence. I like her and think she is independent, intelligent and very much her own person.
Since none of us here knows her personally, that is yet another reason why I for one don't like to see her being dumped on. Heather and Paul are two adults who are capable of making their own decisions and I think it is in everyone's interest to accept that.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Well said - I totally agree.Too many people are very quick to put her down (including people on this forum).Who are people to say she is no good for Paul or she is just after his money - Shut Up!!
It's Paul's life and nobody who has this opinion knows Heather in any way, I'm sure!!

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I certainly hope neither of you took my comment as a put-down of Heather because it wasn't in any way. It just seemed unlikely to me that Paul would be calling up a tabloid newspaper to make an emotional appeal to them. That's all.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
I'm very proud of Paul-- Paul was always quick to defend both Linda and Heather. However I guess after over 30 years of hearing the press bash against his wife, Paul really lost his temper and tell the press what he thought.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
At first I used to have my doubts about Heather, but since before little Bea's birth, I think that she's been able to make Paul a happy man and that's good enough for me. She does seem like a down-to-earth person (a trait Paul always liked in people since he's very down-to-earth himself). I think sometimes tabloids go a bit too far, wether what they say is true or not. So,if Paul really did say all these things, then I applaud him, because it was about time someone put a cork in their pieholes. I personally don't like Yoko Ono for instance, but I don't go around telling people sh***t about her. To each his own opinion, right? So why the hell go on blasting off about Heather like this?? Everyone did the same with Linda, so it seems to me that these people believe that NO ONE will ever be good enough for Paul. It makes me sick, the man has a life, doesn't he? Age is never necessarily an impediment or a reason... My dad is 22 years older than my mum and they're still together!!! So screw the press, Paul!! You go!

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
I'm glad that Paul told the press to stop bashing Heather! My theory is that the press will eventually get tired of bashing Heather, like with Linda, and finally realize that Heather is a good person who wasn't after Paul's money. For the older Linkers, do you remember the scandal with Linda being linked to the Kodak-Eastman company? Something about how she was after Paul's money to get even more rich off of his fortune?

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Linda was NOT in ANY WAY related to the Eastman-Kodak Eastmans. In fact, the family name was Epstein until her father changed it. She was as Jewish as they come. Her father was a successful entertainment lawyer who earned all his own money, and her mother, Louise Lindner, was the heiress to a department store fortune.
Just thought I should correct what is still a perpetual error.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">What Mad said.
I wasn't referring to any specific comment either. It's just that I've run across mean spirited personal comments against Heather in times past that really have no fact basis. I'm GLAD Paul told the press off about that sort of thing.
Each "Beatle" wife is an important person and it is in part because of the impact they have had on the lives of the Beatles (and by extension their fans) that have positively impacted on the music and lives of each Beatle. Frankly, I think each one of the wives in her own individual way is a good person.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
Out of all the Beatle connections out there, parent, sibling, wife, girlfriend, child, etc. the most hardest role you can have from an outsider is the wife. Cynthia, Maureen, Patti, Yoko, Linda, and Heather (not sure about Olivia or Barbara) have all gotten press abuse when they were/are married to the Fab Four.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
Good job for Paul, telling off the press like that! I'm glad he's not just allowing the newspapers attack his wife without voicing his support for her. When Paul and Heather got married, I have to admit that I was one of those pessimistic people, but now that I can see how Heather makes Paul happy, I'm very glad for them both and I hope they continue to be happy in the many years ahead. Hooray for Paul, defending his wife, I'm pleased that he did.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
Wow, I was a little surprised at how Paul blew up to the press, but I give him a thumbs up for standing up for his wife! Heather's a lucky woman, not only because this is Paul Macca, ex-Beatle, but because he really does love her and always defends her.

Re: Macca: Lay off my wife
Does anybody really believe that Beatle of the world Paul McCartney, who could probably charm any woman in the world, would get himself into a relationship with someone undeserving?
