RUMOR ‘CLOUDS' NEW SONG BY BEATLE GEORGE
By JEN VITALE
November 3, 2002 -- Another Beatles myth has been debunked.
Fans of the late George Harrison are eagerly awaiting the release this month of a posthumous album that features the powerful song "Stuck Inside a Cloud."
Its lyrics have been widely interpreted by those who have heard it in prerelease as a testament to the ex-Beatle's love for wife Olivia as he battled the throat, lung and brain cancer that took his life.
But that's not true, a source close to the production of the album told The Post.
The lyrics for "Stuck Inside a Cloud" were written more than a decade ago and "long before George was sick," said the source, who asked not to be named.
Because the lyrics are "so resonant to his experience with cancer," the source added, "People will naturally draw the conclusion that he wrote the song while he was ill."
Online fan sites have been filled with speculation about the significance of "Stuck Inside a Cloud," which has been described by Harrison's 24-year-old son, Dhani, as his own "favorite song."
Dhani completed the recording project under the guidance of the Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, Harrison's longtime producer, after his father died.
Dhani confirmed that the placement of "Stuck Inside a Cloud" - it's the seventh song on the 12-track album - was deliberate. Seven, he said, was his father's lucky number.
But he can only theorize about the song's meaning.
"The title could mean a veil of ignorance, something everyone on earth experiences and is ultimately trying to get rid of. It confuses you and shortens your vision," Dhani said in a recent interview.
The album, due to be released in two weeks, is called "Brainwashed." It is the first solo album from the "quiet Beatle" since the multiplatinum "Cloud Nine" in 1987.
A concert featuring performances of Harrison's music by artists including Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Tom Petty will be held at London's Royal Albert Hall on Nov. 29 - the first anniversary of his death.
Beatles rumors have been as popular as the band - and as enduring as its fame.
They include the "Paul is dead" hoax, the myth that "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" stands for LSD, and the rumor that the famous "butcher cover" for the album "Yesterday and Tomorrow" was a protest by the Beatles of Capitol Record's "butchering" of their albums in America.
