Oh boy, I have one today....

A parent who plans a FOUR HOUR birthday party for her kid in Central Park on a 90+ degree day with intense humidity, and who simply WILL NOT LET YOU OFF THE HOOK if you say you need to leave...

I swear, I want to absolutely kill the mother of my son's classmate Tyler -- four hours is entirely too long for a seven-year-old's birthday party on a GOOD day, but every time we tried to cut ourselves loose, instead of giving Jamie his goodie bag and letting us leave, she'd say, "oh, but we haven't done the pinata yet," or "oh, but you have to stay and sing Happy Birthday to Tyler," (in THREE LANGUAGES, yet!!), or "oh, but we haven't had the cake," knowing full well that a seven-year-old is NOT going to want to leave before the pinata, cake and goodie bag....so she basically held us hostage for Jamie's goodie bag! (And don't say we could have left anyway -- ever try to get a kid that age to leave a party without his prize? NOT fun...)

Next year we are conveniently going to be at Grandma's on the day of Tyler's party, I swear....

I'm sorry Susan! Some people have no concept of time, or other people's needs.

My MI: Taking a three hour nap and I still haven't fully waken up.

Just lugging in groceries from the car had me sweating like I'd been hosed!

You are so right about that, honey! I kept hearing my dad's voice in my head going, "Cut yourself loose, Susan, cut yourself loose!" And the woman wouldn't LET us do that!!!!

I hate that groggy feeling after a long nap too -- hope you wake up!

And I gather it's as hot where you are as it is here, Nancy...we have no relief in sight, unfortunately. Bleh....

Unhappy

i wish that they could locate natalee holloway...the missing alabama

teen who disappeared in aruba. not that i want to sound like the voice

of doom, but i would assume the poor girl met with foul play. if only for

the sake of her family, to be able to put her to rest properly.

Hey Lizzy, don't be too hard on yourself. The fact that you're reflecting on the decisions you've already made to help you make new ones means you're bound to start feeling better about your choices soon. And if it makes you feel any better, I've made some fairly poor decisions (ie: procrastinating my school work for an entire week) lately too. I have every confidence that you know how to choose the things that are right for you- so cheer up, sweetie!

Aw - thank you! That did make me feel a lot better, I do have a bad habit of beating myself up over every mistake I make.

Don't you have letter boxes over there in your front door? Why do you have a free standing letter boxes?

Depends on where you live -- in rural areas mailboxes are frequently out by the edge of the driveway along the road because the houses are set so far back. The mail carrier delivers in a car or a postal truck and it would take too long if he or she had to get out of the car and walk up to every door, particularly in farm country!

I grew up in the suburbs and my house had a mail slot in the door -- eventually. For a long time we had a metal box attached to the wall outside the door. And in our apartment building we have a bank of mailboxes in the lobby.
