Ibid., Hari's Chick:

From Louise~

George and I shared many experiences, including the excitement and fun of the early Beatle years, the search for a better understanding of our Creator, why are we here on Earth? and do we have any real purpose? George's search led him, amongst other things, to a book called "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. In about 1969, George sent me a copy of the book and soon thereafter I joined the Self-Realization Fellowship which Yogananda founded in 1925 in California.

George was delighted when I showed him my membership card and with a mischievous grin said to me (knowing some of the goof-ups I had made in my life), "Maybe now you will become my divine sister!" With an equally mischievous grin I replied, "I'd like to try, but it won't come easy." His reply: "Nothing worthwhile ever does!"

I learned from SRF, if you truly believe the Creator is within you: a) You are connected with love to all who also contain that spirit. b) You can never think any thought, or perform any act 'behind God's back' and c) Your spirit cannot be adversely affected by the happenings in this finite and imperfect world. Living with those credos one can only think and act with total purity of purpose. In late 1992, I formed a non-profit environmental organization, called Drop-In! It was a continuation of the spirit of many of the "messages" embodied in the Beatle phenomenon. We also included some of the things I had learned from the SRF.

Initially I explained the general ideas of Drop-In to George and invited him to be on the Board, but he said to me, "No Lou, this is your mission or dharma. This is the task you have to do. Besides, it seems you have tapped into a "Power" greater than any help I can give. "

I think this kind of thing makes us love George all the more.

Honestly, I only started exploring George more within the last couple of years. Growing up, I was a staunch John fan and truly felt he was THE best (Don't worry, I still think John is wonderful in his own right, but that's another forum, isn't it?). But I don't know, I guess now that I'm getting older, I'm starting to seek assurance and respect for myself, sanctity in solitude and spirituality, and an appreciation for the things that we most often take for granted. After really looking into George's songs and interviews, he seemed to strive for similar objectives. George kept his integrity intact throughout his life, imo. His honesty really wows me. At this point in my life, his lyrics really speak to me (as the cliche goes). I feel at ease with George's music and truly admire his honesty and fearlessness. But at the same time, he showed us that he was merely human, like us all.

And yes, I dig his sense of humor. And his hair.

Cel,

You said it beautifully. I couldn't agree more. I was always a big Paul fan and still am. As I got older, I got more and more into George, although I always loved his music. When I was younger, so much younger than today I was intensely into George's music and still am.

What I am getting at is that George had and continues to have so much to offer...he has, I believe, made countless people appeciate, celebrate and recognize the spiritual component of their lives. His music has "spoken to me" ever since I was a very young child.

I am reminded of a child I knew who has Asperger's Syndrome, which is the high-end of autism. This child was an avid Beatles' fan and George was her favorite. She would let George "talk" for her and often used the Beatles to get an idea or an agenda across. When she felt "overwhelmed," the first thing she'd do is play some George. She absolutely loved George. Beatle kids warm my heart. This young George fan was rather a distinction even among Beatles fans.

It touches my heart that George was able to reach so many people.

George's music and his words move me deeply. I think it is a fair and honest statement on my part when I say that I really love George.

I think George was very sensitive and humble. I think he never really came to terms with either his fame or the world around him. For these reasons I appreciate him on a personal level.

Well said, Matt.

When I think of how George really converted into action his last words, "love one another," I see all the more how this was expressed in his work and how he lived his life.

I have no problem in admitting that I really love George.

... mind you, I'm also a fan of his because he did do some nice "back-up" work for Roy Orbison on a couple of tracks.

Don't shoot, don't shoot...

I'm only kidding...

ABCKO,

I want you to thank FPSHOT because he did you a major favor.

He exposed you to some serious culture and George Harrison is very enriching indeed.

I was just kidding ! I became a BIG Beatles and ex-fab fan all by my own, in the early 1980's, 20 years before I ever met Mr. FPSHOT...

However, he did introduce me to (and sent me copies of) many un-released Harri tracks, some of which I'd never even known they existed... and for that, I have given my thanks to him, and do so again now... !

hehe yeah, some education was required, but, when I met ABCKO it was on a Beatles related board, with far less knowledge though than this lot

And that was before ABCKO found Roy

Well, like many, I "found" Roy via the Wilburys and his oustanding "Mystery girl" which came out shortly after.

In the 1990's, I got more and more into him as I realised that there was so much more to Roy than his "big hits" !

My interest grew without it ever coming even close to "threatening" The Beatles...

but early 2003, with the Ringoramas' "scandal" and that infamous Rama gig Ringo then did (among other things), well "The Fab Four" were pushed out by "The Big O", from my CD player... and I've never looked back since...

I felt this topic was very a propos given the date.

George was someone who remains very easy to love.

Very a propos, BB.

First I was attracted to George by his looks and the way he stood on stage when I first saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Then it became his guitar playing (I've always loved his guitar playing ), his songs and who he was.

His music has always moved me more than anyone else's. I listen to other artists of course, but I always come back to George. And when the world seems crazy and stress creeps in a bit I listen to George and his music just takes it all away.

I wish that I could say that it was his words, his music, his spiritual thirst, his genius or some other profound answer. However for me it kinda just fell into place. You see, I always enjoyed The Beatles music, I grew up listening to the oldies station so I liked that genre as opposed to New Kids On The Block like most kids my age. Thank you God! Sadly enough I didn't get the firsthand experience of Beatlemania, however by a series of chances (or were they?) I became friends with three other girls during my junior year in high school. We all discovered a shared interest in The Beatles, which then grew into what can only be called an obsession, lol! We were all in band, and every year we did a halloween show where we all dressed in costume of our choosing. We decided to go as The Beatles. One said right of she wanted to be John, the other said she was going to be Paul, so I watched George and Ringo and thought I would like to be George, so I started watching him, his mannerisms and just everything. Then one day I realized that he had become my favorite Beatle. This in itself is not strange. The strange part came when we all started realizing how much like the Beatle we had come to hold as our favorites we were. In my case, I have always been the one who had the kind of quiet but sharp wit, and sarcasm that often left the other three wondering if I was serious or not. Despite being my closest friends, they didn't always know what to think of me. Most importantly however is the spiritual side. Though I am not Hindu, I am deeply religious. In fact I am now a youth minister. I guess I have always felt just drawn to George. He is my favorite because none of the others hold that magnetic draw for me. There are many things I do appreciate about him however. His amazing sense of humor; at times silly, at times biting, and sometimes cynical. His lyrics, I can't even begin to describe them. His music makes me feel more than almost any other artist. Of course he is an exceedingly attractive man! (can't overlook that fact!) Most of all I think it is his thirst for truth and for God that I appreciate above all else about George.

So there you go. This is my story of how George became my favorite and why he is still my favorite now.

Ok, well Paul is my fave, but I saw this wonderful post by my dear friends Space daisy, and just couldn't let it go without comment.

But what I think I really love about George is his incredibly great and dry sense of humor. And I love how he played the guitar; and his solo music is just incredible and honest and beautiful. As I've been learning to play the guitar, I've appreciated how amazing and incredible the chords that George uses are. And of course, I really love George because he is such an Annie.

Warning! The opinion below is made by a person, who learned english while listening to the Beatles songs; thus it might be strange for native speakers.
Having warned the others, here we go.
I love George because of Him. I love the songs and I love the person. I love Him, because he was my only firnd for so many years. He thought me to play the guitar; just like in his case, it was a pain. Now, I am able to play most of his songs. I can not sing it anymore, the cigies affected my voice sooner. well, if that's the way it has to be....
I am always talking to Him. He is always around. That's the best Friend I have ever had.
I guess we love George, because we see us in Him.
