Paul Song of the Day
At the Palace, we have a song of the day for George. Each day a new song can be suggested and thoughts about it shared. Let's start a similar thread for our Paulie...
So, what's a good song of the day for Paul? For today, how about "Beware My Love"...what a great song!!! My favorite version is the live one off of "Wings Over America". Mmmmmm....

Oooh, I love that song, but I never think about it because I never play the album it's on! I'm going to have to go dig it out now that you've mentioned it! Great singing!!

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Yep, I really like that one too. Especially the intro and when it's gets faster and heavier towards the end. Great vocal by Paul on that one on the shouting bits...
"Wo-wo-wo...

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Today my choice is
Monkberry Moon Delight
which has a Harrison like guitar melody, great piano work and Paul at his best with this vocal. And don't forget a very fitting backing vocal by Lovely Linda.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Great vocal! Silly lyrics! A bunch of my friends played this song at the Battle of the Bands at Beatlefest a couple years ago and I got to sing Linda's backing vocals! Fun!

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Sort of a spin-off of "Love Potion #9", but still a good song.
Monkberry Moon Delight
So I sat in the attic, a piano at my nose
And the wind played a dreadful cantata. (cantata, cantata)
Sore was I from the crack of my enemy's hose
And the horrible sound of tomato. (tomato, tomato)
Ketchup (ketchup), soup and puree (soup and puree)
Don't get left behind. (get left behind)
Ketchup (ketchup), soup and puree (soup and puree)
Don't get left behind. (get left behind, get left behind, get left behind)
When a rattle of rats had awoken the sinews, the nerves and the veins,
My piano was boldly outspoken, in attempts to repeat its refrain.
So I stood with a knot in my stomach, then I gazed at the terrible sight
Of two youngsters concealed in a barrel, sucking monkberry moon delight, ooh.
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Ooh.
Well, I know no banana is older than the rest
In my hair is a tangled beretta. (beretta, beretta)
And when I leave my pajamas to Billy Budapest
And I don't get the gist of your letter. (your letter, your letter)
Catch up (catch up), cats and kittens (cats and kittens)
Don't get left behind. (get left behind)
Catch up (catch up), cats and kittens (cats and kittens)
Don't get left behind. (get left behind, get left behind, get left behind)
Aah, monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, sucking monkberry moon delight.
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight
"Try some of this, honey!"
"What is it?"
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight, monkberry moon delight.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
How about Another Day? This is a song with simple lyrics, in a way, but powerful imagery. Paul's voice is smooooooth. John didn't like this song, because of the reference he made to it in "How Do You Sleep"...yet that always surprised me because I think Paul makes a wonderful feminist statement, in a soft way. The girl of this song needs to read some Betty Friedan.

I like this song - nice vocals, and although the words are simple, at least parts of them probably ring true to a lot of people. I like the harmonies in the last verse too. The 45 was one of the first Beatles-related things I bought when I was a new fan.

Wonderful choice, HC! This is one of my favorites of Pauls. It's so "working girl" All in all just a pretty little song.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
"Another Day" is a beautiful love song. I love it!
I also love "Mull of Kintyre."
"I've Had Enough," "Too Many People" are other favorites.
Heck, there are so many. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">???? A love song? Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, but I never saw it as a love song in the slightest! More of a semi-sad slice of life drama kind of thing.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Hey Bearkat, normally I'm the one making fun of Paul's songs.
Those lyrics ; ketchup ????? Isn't it Catch Up ? Super Fu Ray (english actor, Fu Ray, Chinese parents), well better than Obladi-Oblada.
Honestly, I never, never saw those lyrics !!! Whilst I love this song and I sang along, but whatever I sang it had nothing to do with tomato's.
Anyroad,
Another Day ; one of my favorites, it reminds me of summer. That's my first recollection of this song when I first heard it and I play it so many times. It is no love song to me, it is more of a second Penny Lane.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Yep The Kat's lyrics are correct. Just my opinion here but, as is the case with a lot of Paul songs it seems as if he should spend a little more time with the lyrics. But if you want a song that you can sing and scream with then Monkberry Moon Delight is the one to do it with.
Another Day.... very good McCartney tune. Strong acoustic guitar through-out.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Thanks you, bobdude. I thought I had them right. Anyway, here's the words for "Another Day".
Another Day
Every day she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair,
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair,
It's just another day.
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes,
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat,
It's just another day.
At the office where the papers grow she takes a break,
Drinks a mug of coffee and she finds it hard to stay awake.
It's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day, hey.
So sad, so sad, sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell.
Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays, but he leaves the next day
So sad, sometimes she feels so sad.
As she posts another letter to the sound of five
People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay alive.
It's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day, hey.
So sad, so sad, sometimes she feels so sad.
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell,
Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays, but he leaves the next day
So sad, sometimes she feels so sad.
Every day she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair,
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair,
It's just another day.
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes,
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat.
Ah, it's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day.
Du du du du du du, it's just another day, hey.

Re: Paul Song of the Day
Another Day is one of my favorite solo songs of Paul. I remember critics complained that it was too slight, but I didn't think so at all.

Great song! Loved it when Paul sang it in concert years ago and the "Chicago" line got tons of screams and applause!
