Default The Greatest George Harrison Song EVER!!

Paul's is nearing the final stages, so let's get George's competition up and running. I've been waiting so long for this!

Questio is, what LP do we start with first? Do we start with Wonderwall Music, Electronic Sounds or move straight onto All Things Must Pass?

This is great Harb ...

My suggestion is All Things Must Pass...that is...if you wanna go from album to album... The first two are probably not that well known here...and as for Electronic Sounds...it does not have so much songs huh

Cool

I would say All Things Must Pass.

To avoid some of the problems of Paul's round, we should consider George's B-sides and "officialy released rarities", like:

Miss O'Dell (B-side to Give Me Love)
Deep Blue (B-side to Bangla Desh)
I Don't Care Anymore (B-side to I Don't Care Anymore)
Lay His Head (B-side to Got My Mind Set On You)
Zig Zag (B-side to When We Was Fab)
Cockamamie Business (released on the Best Of Dark Horse compilation)
Poor Little Girl (released on the Best Of Dark Horse compilation)
Cheer Down (released on the Best Of Dark Horse compilation)
Tears Of The World (on the original SIE album; released on the Songs By George Harrison Vol.2 extremely rare EP CD; re-released on the Thirty-Three & 1/3 remastered CD)
Sat Singing (on the original SIE album; released on the Songs By George Harrison Vol.1 EP CD)
Flying Hour (on the original SIE album; released on the Songs By George Harrison Vol.1 EP CD)
Hottest Gong In Town (from the Shangai Surprise soundtrack; released on the Songs By George Harrison Vol.2 EP)
Shangai Surprise (from the Shangai Surprise soundtrack; released on the Cloud Nine remastered CD)

If done in this fashion I think we'd cover everything that George officialy released, that is, not including the precious things he left on bootlegs for instance... (Oh, "Nowhere To Go", why didn't you get proper recording?)

I would also vote for getting out of the picture the ATMP instrumentals, and similars from other albums (like "A Bit More Of You" from Extra Texture; or "Hari's On Tour (Express)" from Dark Horse)... they are great in my opinion, but most people would rank them below many Harrisongs when there is a huge catalogue of songs with lyrics on them (same reason why we should not include Wonderwall Music).

Are we going to include the Traveling Wilburys material?

PS: Did you know that George played ALL the instruments in the "Life Itself" demo that appears in the Songs By George Harrison Vol.1 CD EP that comes with the Genesis Publications book? Amazing.

I agree; start with ATMP but skip a few of the tracks that obviously aren't going to win.

Also, don't forget about the ATMP bonus track, "I Live for You."

Let's start this thing first...

But as far as I am concerned...we should cover the whole George catalogue...and that goes beyond the so called "official album CD's"...

I'm guessing that nobody here has heard either Wonderwall Music or Electronic Sounds, so I'm going to start with disc 1 of All Things Must Pass...

Remember, pick your favourite three out of the following...

I'd Have You Anytime (included because Harrison co-wrote it)
My Sweet Lord
Wah-Wah
Isn't It a Pity
What is Life
If Not For You
Behind That Locked Door
Let It Down
Run of the Mill

By the way, if I miss any songs out then please let me know so I can lump 'em all together for another round.

Thumbs up My three!

Isn't It a Pity
Let It Down
Run of the Mill

P.S. Harb, wasn't If Not For You written by Bob Dylan?

P.P.S. Also, should we not consider My Sweet Lord a George song because he lost the plagiarism law suit? Just Kidding!!! Great Song!

Man, first round and already tough choices!

Harb - would you mind putting something on the Paul topic that this one is starting, so people more people are aware? I really wasn't expecting this one to start until the Paul one was over.

Yes, that means I'm not a regular visitor at the Palace (Sorry, Rob and Lorraine!)
