Default Ringo Battles to Save Street

STARR BATTLES TO SAVE STREET

Music legend RINGO STARR is spearheading a campaign to save an English street from demolition. The Beatles star has convinced local authorities in Liverpool to save his childhood home in Madryn Street, but has raised concern over plans to demolish the surrounding properties. He says, "I believe they're knocking the rest of the street down. So where are they going to put (my former home)? "I don't think it makes a lot of sense unless it's where it was. This is some of the madness the council thought of."

Yeah, but just how much time does Ringo actually spend in Liverpool these past many years ?

And by "time", I don't mean a one day jaunt to shoot a documentary, or a two week vacation in a posh, Liverpool hotel !

But Liverpool is still is hometown regardless of how muh time he spends there. I don't think he has any less of a right to support something just beause he doesn't live there anymore or spend a huge amount of time there. And of course he is going to stay in a hotel when he is there- he can't exactly go and knock on the door of his old place and ask to stay there.

Go Ringo!!

But, I had also read that 10 Admiral Grove was to remain standing and refurbished, which is where he spent much of his childhood I thought. Admiral Grove is nearby Madryn Street, is it not?

I can see why he would want to save his birth home though.

I think it's interesting that Liverpool only really recognizes John & Paul. They'll keep their homes, but the rest can go to pot.

(Sucks to be an economy class Beatle, eh Ringo & George?)

I believe Forthlin and Menlove have been part of the National Trust since 1998, as well.

20 Forthlin Road was bought by the National Trust in 1995 and Yoko bought 251 Menlove Road in 2002, before gifting it to the National Trust.

The current owner of 12 Arnold Grove (George's old house) has fought *not* to have an English Heritage Blue Plaque placed on the property.

I'm sure that if the demolishion ball is to fall on any of the houses, there will be some loon fans there, chained to the gates and/or door!

Good info.

Here is the site I pulled the info from, it wasn't very clear which is why I did not state it as fact. Thanks for the fact finding.

I always thought the old Starkey home might be put to good use as a museum.
