To me it has some Asian, (Japan/China) influence in the musical arrangement, but other than that, just a song which could show John sitting at the New York appartment with an acoustic guitar and singing it to Sean.

One of the best touching songs John ever wrote.

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

Close your eyes,
Have no fear.
The monster's gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer.
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.

Out on the ocean of truth, sailing away,
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age,
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient.

'Cause it's a long way to go,
A hard row to hoe.
Yes, it's a long way to go
But in the meantime...

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand.
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer.
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful boy.
Darling, darling, darling,
Darling Sean.

I think this is a gosh darn awful nice song. It's a great modern lullabye.

I'm not a fan of this song as most people is... It's very tender, sweet, beautiful, and everything... but I suppose I've heard it too many times on the radio! It doesn't produce the same impact on me anymore... Perhaps I will "get" it when I'm a father.

Today I suggest

Mind Games

of which John said

"That was a fun track because the voice is in stereo and the seeming orchestra on it is just me playing three notes with a slide guitar. And the middle eight is reggae. Trying again to
explain to American musicians what reggae was in 1973 was pretty hard, but it's basically a reggae middle eight if you listen to it. But it was hard telling these, you know, they didn't know
what reggae was then. I'm glad it's played, it ain't bad."

Some time ago I downloaded a thing called "Mind Games Promo" which is someone - I guess an English actor or artist - is doing a very funny promotion in posh English.

Lyrics:
We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers, planting seeds
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the mantra, peace on earth
We all been playing those mind games forever
Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil
Doing the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic, the search for the grail

Love is the answer and you know that for sure
Love is a flower, you got to let it, you got to let it grow

So keep on playing those mind games together
Faith in the future, outta the now
You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind
Yeah we're playing those mind games forever
Projecting our images in space and in time

Yes is the answer and you know that for sure
Yes is surrender, you got to let it, you got to let it go

So keep on playing those mind games together
Doing the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerrillas
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playing those mind games forever
Raising the spirit of peace and love

Love...
(I want you to make love, not war, I know you've heard it before)

I am happy you all like them so talking to myself I came to this one

Nobody Told Me

I got an early demo Legs sent me where John opens with "This one's gotta be for Ringo". That demo is very fast, I think John did not put his drum machine in the right position It's also in a higher key. I prefer this time the released version.

As a guitar freak I love this song because of the guitars. But also the cool bass makes the song.

NOBODY TOLD ME
John Lennon

Everybody's talking and on one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs

Always something happening and nothin going on
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China, so finish what you got

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed, strange days indeed

Everybody's runnin and no one makes a move
Well everybody's a winner and nothing left to lose
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu

Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground
Well everybody's crying and no one makes a sound
There's a place for us in movies, you just gotta stay around

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky
There's UFO's over in New York and I ain't too surprised

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama

"Nobody told me there'd be days like this,
Strange days, indeed"

is a verse that's pretty meaningful. Like when you stop in the middle of the afternoon and wonder: "how on Earth did I get into all this? What's this?" And then you just go on and try to make it to the next day.

Or trying to survive.

Rocking tune, love it.

Very good choice, FPSHOT. Many a day at work I often tell myself the same thing:

Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama.

A John song that hasn't been done, as far as I know...

This Boy
That boy took my love away,
He’ll regret it someday,
But this boy wants you back again.

That boy isn’t good for you,
Tho’ he may want you too,
This boy wants you back again.

Oh, and this boy would be happy,
Just to love you, buy oh my-yi-yi,
That boy won’t be happy,
Till he’s seen you cry-hi-hi.

This boy wouldn’t mind the pain,
Would always feel the same,
If this boy gets you back again.
This boy. this boy.

I love this song because of the harmony and when John sings the middle part by himself. My GOD! I don't care how many theoretical essays are written about what constitutes the best voice. To me, John had the BEST voice of any man I have ever heard sing. And I'm sincere in that praise.

I heard that Sean covered this song. If that's so, if you read the words, I can understand why he chose the song- in connection with his father.

Aah, the song "Nobody Told Me" brings back memories, of how I just got into John's music. I remember hearing it somewhere, and I was thinking what a great song, gotta have this one. It was nowhere to be find, I knew it was John but I couldn't find the album it was on.Then I was a 4 box Lennon set, and on one cd was "Nobody Told Me" but not having the money then, I asked if I could just buy the one cd, for the song. I couldn't!

Anyway, I like the music and the lyrics to the song, the performance of it. Great song indeed. And it was at one point going to be for Ringo.

The harmonies on "This Boy" are beatiful, that's what I like in that song, and others.

"Nobody Told Me" is a good song. The first single released from Milk And Honey, it was an instant hit.

Nobody Told Me

Everybody's talking and no one says a word.
Everybody's making love and no one really cares.
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs.

Always something happening and nothing going on.
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot.
They're starving back in China so finish what you got.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Strange days indeed -- strange days indeed.

Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move.
Everyone's a winner and nothing left to lose.
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu.

Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground.
Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound.
There's a place for us in the movies you just gotta lay around.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama.

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high.
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky.
There's a UFO over New York and I ain't too surprised.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama.

I like this song - it has a really interesting sound to it that I can't quite pin down. Some of the lyrics are a little goofy, but others I can certainly relate to....strange days indeed.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">How about "Isolation"? For some reason, I've been really getting into that song lately (and no, I'm not feeling isolated ). It's so stark, but I love it.

"Isolation" is the perfect song to close Side 1 of the album. It gives the listener something to ponder over before they flip the record to here Side 2.

Isolation

© Northern Songs, Ltd.

People say we got it made.
Don't they know we're so afraid?
Isolation.
We're afraid to be alone,
Everybody got to have a home,
Isolation.

Just a boy and a little girl
Trying to change the whole wide world,
Isolation.
The world is just a little town,
Everybody trying to put us down,
Isolation.

I don't expect you to understand
After you've caused so much pain,
But then again, you're not to blame
You're just a human, a victim of the insane.

We're afraid of everyone,
Afraid of the sun,
Isolation.
The sun will never disappear,
But the world may not have many years,
Isolation.
