Default A Story that needs some advice ...

Hello, all. I'm new to the board, and I bring with me a story that's about 80% complete and will be finished within the next couple of days. I've read a lot of Beatles fan-fiction, both good and crappy, and I'd like to make sure my story falls in with the former and not the latter. Can anyone suggest a good editor or beta-reader to help me ensure that my story is good enough to appear somewhere on the internet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Beatlelinks, MonaMe577! I also write fanfic; a couple of my stories appeared in the Beatles fanfic e-zine Rooftop Sessions and are currently on my own site. (See my sig for the links.) I read the story fragment you posted in the other topic and thought it was a good beginning. It's a bit late for me to be giving suggestions, though; let me reread it and mull it over. I'll try to get some comments up by Thursday.

Thank you for your reply, Sandra. I'm relieved, I hope this means you didn't find any GLARING obvious errors, then! I look forward to some comments--I would like to improve this story to the point of being publishable. Thanks for your help--in advance!

You might want to read Rooftop Sessions for ideas. The section on technical aspects of writing in Rooftop Sessions is another good helpful source.

Oh believe me, I have. I really enjoy your site, and it's one of my aspirations to be published there eventually. That's why I yanked the story frag for repairs--I downloaded the article about effective openings and decided to rework mine.

Small correction -- it's time I speak up here, as I didn't see this thread until now!

Rooftop Sessions is MY site -- I'm the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. Sandra is an associate editor and BB is a past contributor, but I'm the one in charge! However, that said, I'm glad that you enjoy the site and are considering a submission in the future...it's always nice to hear that people enjoy what is presented on my site.

Right now I'm swamped trying to get the new issue up and running for August 1, but I am planning to read your story and would be happy to give you comments or act as an editor or beta-reader for you if you would like. I've already taken a quick glance at what you posted and think it looks very interesting.

And by the way, welcome to Beatlelinks, MonaMe!
