Oh, I'm sorry you can't make it! I was looking forward to meeting you and little Alex! But I know all too well what colic is like - my daughter had it...for SEVEN months, and believe me it's no fun.
But hopefully for sure next year!!

Maybe the local-area Linkers can get together outside of the Fest sometime. But seven months of colic? I really hope Alex doesn't suffer that long.

OK, I'm at the Fest ... well, I'm at the hotel (the Fest won't start til tomorrow [one day!!! ]. I'm still all sweaty from my three hour drive and have a bit of a headache and need a nap, but I wanted to make my first report.

I came in the back entrance from the parking lot and immediately noticed changes in the hotel: the wishing-well fountain is gone! There's a big brick wall just inside the revolving door and on each side of it are sitting areas; very business-like. Over this area is a glass dome, instead of the way the ceiling was over the fountain (I don't know how to describe it; reminded me of a collapsible cup ). In the hallway leading to the main lobby, the old wooden square arches have been replaced by glass doors. The area back there seems more spacious, but there weren't many people around when I came in; we'll see how crowded it'll be when all the Beatlemaniacs arrive

The main lobby area has changed so much. The stairs and escalators are all glass and run not just to the second floor but also to the basement; the enclosed area under the stairs where Beatles singing used to be done is gone, but in the basement there is an area behind the stairway where I assume the singing will relocate.

Check-In isn't on the first floor anymore; where that used to be are now seating areas and is very spacious. There's a special Fest For Beatles Fans booth near where the ticket booth used to be (Carol Lapidos was sitting there, on her cell phone, when I walked by). The coffee shop is still in the corner, but the computer station and wall monitors are all gone; that area is vacant now, but I assume the food tables will go there as before.

The ugly statue remains

I went down to the basement. All the glass doors and walls at the bottom of the stairway are gone. To the left are public computers (I'll be in that area with my laptop plugged in ). Although there are seating areas all over and the hallways leading to the Marketplace area are more open, the rooms where exhibits were are still in place, so, while I did get a little confused at first, it'll be easy to find your way around.

I peeked into the Marketplace and saw vendors setting up; beware, Bruce Spizer is lurking around

I then went up to the second floor to check-in; the check-in area is to the left of the escalators / elevators on that floor, where the gift shop and those cubicles (for lack of a better name) were. There are still some sitting areas near there, on the way to where the Trivia Games and Beatley Incorrect used to be ... but that room is now gone, replaced by a bar. The exercise room is in that corner also. There's a restaurant still where it used to be on that floor, but it's been remodeled completely. The second floor is also very spacious.

As I was checking in, I saw Len Garry and, I think, Eric Griffiths walking around. After checking in, I wandered around the second floor some more and saw them again. I walked up and said, 'hi, Quarry Men'. Len shook my hand and immediately asked me if there used to be a bar around there. I said that there used to be a sports bar, but as I tried to point out where it used to be, I got confused; everything looks so different ... plus, I never visited the sports bar. I pointed out the new bar (replacing where the Trivia Games were held), but they said they'd already checked it out ... be aware that two Quarry Men seem unimpressed with that bar

From the third floor up, everything still looks the same.

OK, I need to get my luggage out of the car, take a shower and take a nap. I'll be back with more on-the-scene reports later

Great rundown of your arrival jes!

You met 2 of the Quarrymen, hey that's good!! Being good englishmen they will be fussy about their drinking environment!

I hope you feel better after your shower and nap!

Enjoy yourself this weekend and keep us informed!

OK, I'm now totally confused. I get lost as it is, and from the sounds of it, I don't think I'll be able to find anything. It sounds like everything is changed around and different, and I'm not going to know where the heck I'm going.

It's not too different. The elevators and hallways and exhibit rooms are all the same as before. I'm easily disoriented, but I'm getting around just fine (except for that debacle at the revolving doors )

I just spoke with I Am the Paulrus. He's at the Fest and is looking for other Beatlelinkers. My memory must be going; he told me what he was wearing, but all I can remember is that he's wearing Buddy Holly glasses.
