Another crack at it.

The late 80s song is 'When We Was Fab'. The mid 60s song is 'If I Needed Someone To Love'. Both songs contain the word 'love' in the lyrics. George used a twelve-string guitar on both tunes.

You were much closer with your previous guess. See my response to that guess above....

Have at it!

Okay...

When 'We Was Fab' from Cloud 9 for the late 80s song, and 'Think For Yourself' from Rubber Soul for the mid 60s song. 'Thinking' is the word taken from 'Think For Yourself', that can be associated with the lyrics of 'When We Was Fab' because it's a song about thinking of the past. The instrument...I don't have a clue. So, I'll go with Ringo Starr playing drums on both songs again.

Alright... I am going to give a super-hint (at least what I'd consider a super-hint):

1.) We have the two songs in question: "Think For Yourself", and "When We Was Fab".

Now, we need....

2.) The word that connects the two:

Insert word here:____________

And since there are two songs involved, there will be two parts to this "half" of the question:
  • "Think For Yourself"'s word connection: _________________________
  • "When We Was Fab"'s word connection _________________________

God, I hope that makes sense!

When We Was Fab connects to Think For Yourself via the word "fuzz" referring to George's Fuzz Tone Effect.

Colonel, you're almost there, but there's a slight discrepancy in your answer (with regard to the "Think For Yourself" portion of your answer)

... and after all this question has been through, I'd hate to accept an "almost correct" answer.

Give it another whirl.

Having reread the question and hints, I'm no closer to understanding it. so I'm just going to rephrase my answer.

When We Was Fab contains the line "The fuzz gonna come and claim you". Which may refer to George's Maestro Fuzz-Tone which was used in Think For Yourself.

I was looking for "Paul's Fuzz Bass" + "... the fuzz gonna come and claim you..."

But ok! I will accept that answer!

Thanks, everyone, for bearing along with me on this one! I know it wasn't the typical question that could be researched and found in a book, online, etc. But it was fun!
