Default From Me To You

For one point, tell me...

... if you were out and about (in the U.S.) during the 1965 holiday season, looking for that perfect gift for the Beatles fan in your life, how might have you seen the band's latest offering being touted as?

Please be as detailed as possible when answering. I'm going to be a hard-ass on this one!

Would the Beatles' latest offering at Christmas 1965 be the Rubber Soul album?

There were ads in magazines.

This first ad was in Billboard Magazine and it was a full-page ad
http://www.beatlebay.com/images/DDD/...ubberSoul1.jpg

This second ad was from Capitol records Teenset Magazine and also full page

Sorry, I don't know how to bring up photos on the page.

The We Can Work it Out/Day Tripper single was touted as the first double A-sided single.

Merits at least two points, don't you think?

It was touted as "The greatest show on Earth"...or maybe I'm thinking about a circus...

No. Because once you find the source, it should be fairly easy to give the correct answer. I said I will be a "hard-ass" because I'll expect certain details. I can say no more! Other than....

fellowgardener was on the right track with his first guess.

Again, here's links to my guess. And by the way, I'm a she.

No correct answers yet......

However, I DID see something that WOULD give away the correct answer!

But links do not constitute a valid answer. I must have typed words—a description of what it was that our hypothetical holiday Beatles shopper was seeing!

Hop to it!

At Christmas 1965 a shopper may want to give a Beatles fan a record. Record stores had displays for the album HELP!

Capitol Records had a cardboard promotional counter display manufactured for the Christmas season that year. It was a 9" high by 11" wide box that contained copies of Capitol Records "Gift Problems?, Here's HELP!" 24 page booklet featuring Santa Claus holding The Beatles HELP! album on the cover. Inside, The Beatles albums to date are featured in color along with other group's albums. The display has a fold-out easel on the back to hold it up.

Oh, close!

Take a left at the end of that record aisle, and you'll see something else! "Hmmm! What's that say???"

Remember, everyone.... as the question stated in the original post—it's the end of the year, and you're interested in the band's LATEST offering... your "Beatle loved one" already owns the prior release.

Okay, I'll go again with the Rubber Soul album.

There's a poster of the Rubber Soul Album and at the top is written,
NEW FROM THE BEATLES!
IN TIME FOR THE SEASON

At the bottom of the poster it says

-AND A NEW BEATLES SINGLE TOO!

Beside that is the cover sleeve of the 45rpm
THE BEATLES
WE CAN WORK IT OUT/DAY TRIPPER

This rpm picture sleeve comes in a little over the bottom right corner of the Rubber Soul album picture.

Another note: In small print at the top under "IN TIME FOR THE SEASON" it says "We've released the latest and maybe the greatest Beatles album in time for the holidays. Order enough to meet the rush!" In small print at the bottom beside the 45rpm it says "You're hearing it now, and it's not in this or any Beatles album. How's your stock picture?" I guess these two notes were for the record department regarding supply.

At least this is what I saw when I turned left at the end of the aisle. Hope I was in the right store.

Well... I waited to give others a chance. But since there have been no further attempts....

It would seem that those are ADS from MAGAZINES. But our enterprising Beatles holiday gift shopper is in a STORE.

The answer is close at -hand!

P.S.: Never mind the "I'm going to be a hard-ass..." comment. Just answer the question as originally asked.

Stores had 22.5" x 22.5" cardboard displays of of the Rubber Soul album with a cardboard easel on the back.

There were also 22.5" x 30" cardboard displays with easels of the album that had a panel on the side reading,

THE BEATLES SING 12 NEW SONGS!

GREAT FOR GIVING!
OR JUST GROOVY LISTENING!

As our industrious shopper turns the corner, he/she sees a poster hanging up near an album that JUST came out a few days ago...

"Great for giving! Or just groovy listening!" it says! Gift found!
