I didn't watch much of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, but I'll bet I saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure on the big screen a half dozen times.
"Alright, Speck. Alright, Speck! ALRIGHT, Speck; put Dottie back on!"

A bunch of college friends and I went to see "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" back when it came out (1985? 1986?), and we laughed so damn hard.
A few years back, I stood in line at the post office with the guy who played "Francis"!

I responded to your post in the TV thread about this. I'm a Pee-Wee fan. Used to love watching the show with my kids (but I laughed harder than they did)... also saw his show a few months ago.

I know you are, but what am I?
Pee-Wee was a pisser! Paul Rubens in his alter-ego, Pee-Wee was so campy you couldn't help but laugh at him.

Howdy doody Pee-wee pals!
Hi Pee-wee pals!
jesgear, thank you for the gear photo! I think Pee-wee looks absolutely adorable wearing that red bell-boy cap. In fact, that whole scene is wonderful! "Mr. Herman, you have a call at the front desk". His pet dog, appropriately called Speck, is very cute (and oh-so-tiny!) They say owners look like their pets...
Hello to 62hofner (great make of guitar!). And I'm very impressed that you have actually seen Mark Holton (a.k.a. the dastardly Francis Buxton) up close! All I get to see in my local post office is the 'crazy cat lady' from down the road. The splendidly bizarre film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, was released on a warm summer's day in August, 1985. I'm pleased you and your friends enjoyed it. As Pee-wee said "Go ahead and scream your head off! We're miles from where anyone can hear you!".
Hello to my Pee-wee pal called Maia 66 "Make me!" I am sooooo pleased to read your extremely positive comments about the HUGE talent that is Pee-wee Herman (played by the equally fascinating and funny Paul Reubens). Unfortunately, Pee-wee's Playhouse has never been shown in England and so I, like many others, enjoy spending many a happy hour searching for the episode clips via the wonderful YouTube. I wonder if he will ever perform his show in England. Looking back, life seemed a bit dull before I discovered Pee-wee Herman. With him, every day is a HAPPY day!
I Pee-wee Herman!
I Chairy!

"That's my name, don't wear it out!"
Finally, a big hi to beatlebangs1964 Personally, I LOVE camp, effeminate men
Here is a photo of Paul Reubens wearing his much-loved hair in a similar style to the much-loved Beatle moptop style...
Keep your fab comments coming!

Do you prefer Paul Reubens with long hair and a fringe or with short 'Pee-wee' hair?

I did see it when it came out (what year was that?), but I was disappointed that it wasn't as awesome as Pee-Wee's Big Adventure ... of course, it's been many years since, and I might appreciate it more if I watch it a second time *goes to Netflix*

Big Top Pee-wee
Wonderful Pee-wee photo from 62hofner - thank you for sharing that with us! I like the moment when, after he falls off his beloved bicycle, Pee-wee tries to act casual and cooly says "I meant to do that". Ha, ha!
Hello to jesgear. 'Big Top Pee-wee' was released in July 1988. I like the part when Pee-wee is milking the cow and he says, "Mmm, chocolatey!". Snowball the clown is cute (in a depressed sort of way) and Shim is bizarre. But, however brilliant it was, it was met with a lukewarm reception compared with that of 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' and was not as commercially successful as it made less than half of its gross revenue. But hey, it has a talking pig!
"Duh, Vance! You'd think I never went to agricultural junior college!"
"Ahhhh, lunch with Winnie!"
And I thought Valeria Golino looked very beautiful as trepeze artist / Pee-wee's girlfriend Gina Piccolapupula...

Pee Wee is, and always has been, a great hero of mine!! I never missed his show when I was little, and I watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure every few days!
Saw him at the Roxy and it was AMAZING!!! I had the greatest time ever, watching cartoons, and screaming for the secret word, and wishing with Jambi... it was a great night! Felt just like I was 5 again.
Long live Pee Wee!

Hello BeatleChick
Hey there BeatleChick!
Lovely to read your fond comments and happy memories of Pee-wee Herman. It sounds as if you had a really fab time seeing him perform live! I agree... long live Pee-wee!

Actually, it was at the Nokia Theater in downtown L.A. We went together on Feb. 7th.
And, yes...it was a great night. We had fun together.

Poor Pee-Wee. The poor dude
got shafted in or about 1989
and we know what the story
reported was.
Still, that was no reason to
kick Pee-Wee out of the race.
Cosby even said that Pee-Wee
was not hurting anybody and
not hurting any child, so the
poor guy was railroaded.
Poor Pee-Wee. I know you are,
but what am I? Hee hee hee
