New features
I noticed the forum has some new features, like links to your last post in a topic, or a link to a post that has been quoted.
Jerry, do you mind telling all the new features, or at least, the most importants, so we can take advantage of them right away?
Thanks.

Yeah, we upgraded to the newest version last night, but I was too tired to post about it. There are tons of nice new features. I honestly don't know them all, I'm discovering them too. Here are a few right off the bat that I've noticed...
Everything is supposed to run faster. I've already noticed a few things, like when you post.
When you edit a post, it's much better. It opens up an edit box inside the topic, so you can see all the other posts before and after you.
The basic forum stats (members, topics, posts, newest member) is now at the top, where I've always wanted it.
Near the bottom you'll find some "Top 5" stats which are nice. If you click that title, you'll get more info than you could possibly want.
Also at the bottom, you can see who's visited the forum in the last 24 hours, and if you rest your mouse over any name, you'll see exactly when that user was online.
If you go into any forum, you might see a blue arrow - - to the right of a topic name, which means you've posted at least once in that specific topic. If you click the arrow, you'll go directly to your last post in that topic. Very nice and useful.
You can quote multiple posts in your replies. Just click as many of these - - as you want, and then hit any quote button. You should be taken to a reply page with all of the selected posts already quoted and ready to go. To reply to just one post, just hit the regular quote button like before.

Brett's also going to be adding a little arcade feature. If you play games online, I'm sure you'll just keep using Yahoo or something else. But they're always fun to play once in awhile, and it keeps track of high scores.
The "BeatleLinks Donor" tag is missing right now, but it'll be back soon. And if you're wondering what that means, click HERE.
If you guys see anything else worth mentioning, or if you see something that needs fixing, please post it here.

theres also now saying how full your PM box is, saying the % of room you have left! :P
can I ask Jerry if you don't mind, how many people do you have running links then? not moderators but who started the site? how long has the site been running? thanks!

Ah yes, the history of BeatleLinks. Well, it was a dark night many centuries ago. I think it was March or April, 2000 to be exact. My friend Brett had started a links database and forum for his favorite band, Van Halen...
http://www.vhlinks.com
It looked cool and easy to run, he seemed to be enjoying it, so I figured why not do the same thing with my favorite band. And so it began. Brett was around a lot in the beginning, we both had a lot more time to spare. Then his VH site kinda took off and he got busy with other stuff, so you'll only see him lurking around once in awhile.
The links database took forever to compile. I literally typed in "beatles" in Yahoo and added every single site listed until my fingers fell off. Meanwhile, the forum slowly grew over time, moderators were added little by little, and then two more admins were added too. Here's the current list of them all...
http://www.beatlelinks.net/forums/showgroups.php
The forum really runs itself, we get the occasional spam, and real problems only pop up once in awhile. But I have to say that the admins and mods are responsible for making this place what it is, there's no way I could or would read every topic and post out there. So thanks to them, I think the forum is the best one out there, in my humble opinion of course.

VHLinks opened September 2, 1999 actually, but close enough.

Lots of great new features, but I must admit I'm not
too keen on the fact that so few threads show on the
pages now. Visitors may not notice that there are more
threads going on, and also threads that are out of sight
may die an earlier death than they may have done if they
stayed on the current page. The more threads that are
active, the more interesting the board is, to me anyway.

I think you have things set to show up that way. You have to change the "Display Options" at the bottom of any separate forum. You should also change the options in your user control panel.

this may be a little off topic, but is there any chance of having custom avatars, and maybe a tad bigger? not that the ones provided aren't great. if it takes up too much space that's alright.

Good timing with your question. I'm thinking of adding a premium membership status on the forum, where you'd get a bunch of extra features, including custom avatars. It would cost money, but I'm trying to add enough things to make it worthwhile.
