Default Long And Winding Road

A song I have always loved, my partner and I were listening to the "1" album the other day and of course the album finishing with this song. She had heard it before but didnt know it was the Beatles. Do you think it sounds like a Beatles song? I do cause its so familar but I could also see her view...

A beautiful, yet sad song. John called it "the last scream of his", refering to Paul. I agree it doesn't sound like a Beatles song like some others do.

I have always seen this as more of a Paul solo. It is a beautiful song though.

I haven't ever been a huge fan of this song. It's nice to hear when you're down or whatever, but for me, it is my least favorite Beatles song. It dosen't really sound like a Beatles song, like sourmilkpinky said, I've also seen it as a Paul song. I'm not sure why. But then again, there are other songs on each album that make me think of each of them rather then them as a whole.

You have a reasonable point of view, sgtgwen. It's a "crying" song. i do see its beauty, though, but there's also uglyness.

I wouldn't particularly call it a "Beatle" type song, more a Paul song!! He does a fab live version at his gigs!!

I used to dislike the song... with the lavish production and orchestra. But listening to it on Let It Be...Naked really was a revelation. Un-Spectored, it turned out to be very beautiful after all. I liked Billy Preston's organ bit also.

About it 'not' really being a Beatles song, I do have to ask... whats sounds more like a Beatle song? Revolution 9, or Love Me Do? Or Tomorrow Never Knows?

It is very Let-it-be style for me. That album is not very "beatle"... maybe I Me Mine is the only "Beatle" song. But of course it is a beautiful song!!

I never paid attention to this song on the original Let It Be album but think it's beautiful and very pleasing on the Naked one.

I have to ask: What is a Beatles song v. a Paul or John or George or Ringo song? The Beatles evolved so much during the groups existence that it's really hard to pinpoint a specific sound and say "That is the Beatles sound."

I think that is the beauty of The Beatles, nothing can be pinpointed as a a "Beatle song" as such because they were always changing their music by constantly trying to get the right sound that they wanted and weren't afraid to try new things to get there! They also suceeded in reinventing themselves as they grew up during the Beatle years!

Well I guess it is a little more Paul solo, but that was kinda the gist in the later years, wasnt it? After that I cant really say much cuz I honestly dont like the song. Sorry people who like it! It just makes me feel kinda depressed.

I love this song. It's simply a great tune! Hell, I even prefer the Phil Spector treatment.

Sure - it's a bit melancholic, but I don't care. Sure, it could be argued that it's a bit cheesey, but what the hell.

One thing is for certain...it IS a Beatle song.

Performed by The Beatles.

I agree with you, Johnny, it's a beautiful song! I see nothing "cheesy" in these lyrics unless one's a cynic who considers all love songs cheesy!

I really like this version of it even if Paul gets all choked up in the beginning. He sings it with so much feeling. I posted it the other day. Follow this link

It's called picking up the slack. If John had wanted more influence he could've shown up at the studio or contributed more, couldn't he? I absolve George as he certainly was dissatisfied with how his composition were routinely ignored but that had little to do with the later years as few of the Harrison compositions made it to the Beatles albums at any time.
