Default Louise Sr. speaks on the Beatles & Pope Paul

This is so sweet, from '65 archives. She said she would be delighted if the boys could play for the Pope. She even had them composing a new song for the occasion.

Wow. considering the Pope condemed them for being a bad influence and for John's Bigger then jesus' remarks. not long ago the current Pope absolved them and Ringo stated, "I think the Pope has bigger problems to be dealing with then talking about the Beatles." Paul said nothing.

Louise French Harrison was such a lovely woman. From all accounts she was friendly, maternal, affable and truly loved the 4 children she was blessed with.

On a related note, Louise as we know was Catholic and had George baptized when he was 1 month old. Years later, George had a beautiful statue of Mother Mary on his property. I always believed that his Catholic roots stayed with him and bore fruit all of his life.

I think so, too! I can see those roots, too, BB. :)

I didn't know George was baptized at 1 month old. How sweet! My Mom said she had me baptized when I was so small the baby booties were falling off my feet- two or three days old, I think.

I would LOVE to see the Mary statue, BB. I am actually collecting statue pictures of Mother Mary at the moment. It's for a quilting project. I'd love to include George's statue, so much! Would you by chance have a photo?

On a side note, the statue George has of the Sacred Heart in his grotto is one I had in my home growing up.

I think maybe it was a hand shake? Too bad it didn't happen! I love how Lou says the boys will need to write a song for the occasion, so cute!

Tthe picture of Mother Mary is in many books. I'll have to check which ones.

George even said in Anthology that Louise was Catholic, but Harold Sr. was Anglican, but since he was a nonpracticing member, he [Harold Sr.] in George's words "wasn't really anything," meaning the older man did not follow any religion.

I love the story about the Grotto. I believe that the Catholic roots Louise instilled in George early on stayed with him all his life. I was bapitzed in infancy as well and my church, the Catholic church uses some of George's songs for prayer meetings, Bible studies and discussion groups. We feel his music is very relavant and George wrote beautiful prayers he set to music.

George was a Krishna devote and died as a devote. Even though I am not a devote and never will be, I am fascinated by his death.

I had no idea that was George's baptismal name. George is a saint's name and interestingly, St. George is the Patron Saint of England.

Georgous - I know many of you are thinking Gorgeous and many of you are thinking that his thick, wavy hair and beautiful smile and slender body made his name very a propos.

Also, Louise wanted to name her child after the then current king, King George VI. He used his voice for the better and her son George did too. A Beatle connection, there is!

I grew up Catholic but never knew St, George was the patron saint of England.

Laraine, where did you find George's baptismal certificate? Georgeous? That does not sound like a real translation of George and since George is a saint's name, then George would not have needed a baptismal name.

My priest explained it like this: If you have a name that is not a Biblical or a saint's name, then you have a baptismal name added to it. For example, Brandon Scott _____ did not have a Biblical name. He was baptized Brandon Scott John _____ because John is a Biblical name.

I'm sorry, Beatlebangs, I couldn't remember where I read it, so I went googling and I did find this:

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liver...0252-28003819/

I had the spelling wrong, it was Georgius.

Thank you, Laraine. Our Lady of Good Help Church - I admit I have never run across that name for the Catholic churches here in the US. I like that.

George was baptized "Georgious?" George IS a saint's name - again, St. George was the Patron Saint of England. He's the dragon slayer and is a powerful saint who protects you from evil.

St. David is the Patron Saint of Wales.
St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland.
St. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Wales.

If it was "Georgius" that looks to me like simply the Latin version of the name. Probably not unusual, pre-Vatican II, especially in places known for being somewhat formal. Or could have simply been a priest or church secretary who wanted to show how erudite he/she was!

Possibly. I remember as a child watching cartoons being quite irked when a fake Latinized version of a character name appeared under the character with the suffix "us," as in "roadrunnerus." I didn't like that; wasn't fooled by it and didn't find it funny. I HOPE nobody was trying to show off their erudition!

I could not find a Latin translation for George to verify this. However, I did find out that Georgos is Greek for George.
