Today, the 23rd is Roy Orbison's Birthday, he would have turned 68.

A wonderful man and a true member of the Traveling Wilburys as Lefty Wilbury, adding wonderful and genious vocals to the first album.

For many thé song of the album is a song, mainly written by Jeff Lynne, who clearly had some songs of Roy on his mind when he wrote this tune, the tittle to start with, which is a clear reference to "Only The Lonely" I think. Also the sha-la-la-la's which, almost copied, came back in "You Got It" refer to the early days of the Big O.

My friend ABCKO know so much about Roy and has told me tons of it, and I know he loves the part where Roy does the high voice finale .... "you're 'NOOOOT' alone"

This really is a masterpiece of the album.

Today, for you Roy and for you ABCKO, to your Birthday

Lyrics:
You always said that I'd be back again
That I'd come running to you in the end
I thought that you were on your own
And now I find you're not alone

I'll see you through the rain
Through the heartache and pain
It hurts like never before
You're not alone any more

You always said that I would know someday
Just how it feels when your love walks away
I let you down I let you go
I lost you, how was I to know

I'll see you through the rain
Through the heartache and pain
It hurts like never before
You're not alone any more

I never knew I could feel this way
I never could see past yesterday
You feel that everything is gone
I feel it too, you're not alone

I'll see you through the rain
Through the heartache and pain
It hurts like never before
You're not alone any more

Couldn't have put it better myself...

As FPSHOT just hinted at, I have listened to & bought "a few" Orbisongs in my day...

And despite all of "The Big O"'s master-pieces and other lesser known jewels, "Not alone anymore" does rank among Roy's best, most beautiful songs n(in my opinion), which says a lot consdering Roy's oustanding solo efforts !

I love how Roy does his trade-mark, mid-word "volume changes" on ".... every HEAAAART-ache and pain".

... and, yes, (as usual... for me) as great as the finale and other aspects of that song are.... my favorite bit is the set-up for the big finale, the two title repeats just before the LAST two repeats of it...

"You're nooot alone... You're nooot alone..." *

* As Jim Keltner does those cymbal crashes that almost make you think, along with Roy's voice, that the sky is falling in...

I don't remember the day Roy was born, of course, but very clearly indeed do I remember the day he died.

Anyway this is one of my favourites from his superb vocal efforts.

I looooooove this song. Ray's voice truly sends chills down your spine on this one. Man, I haven't listened to my Wilbury CD's in way too long. (Adds to "TO DO" list...)

Next one a song whcih always cheers me up, the sound of the Wilburys in

Inside Out

Well actually the grass in my garden needs some 'greening'

The amazing sound of Bob's voice is a bit of a lead here, which is obvious in a song like this and the harmony vocals are just awesome.

You know by now that the video just cracks me up

Okay gang, let's chant and be happy, this time with the Wilburys

Lyrics:
Look out your window
That grass ain't green
It's kinda yellow
See what I mean?
Look up your chimney
The sky ain't blue
It's kinda yellow
You know it's true
(It's so hard to figure what it's all about)

When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out

Look down your drain pipe
What color do you see?
It's got to be yellow
Don't try to fool me
(And don't it make you wanna twist and shout)

When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out

Be careful where you're walking
You might step in something rough
Be careful where you're talking
And saying all that stuff
Take care when you are breathing
Something's funny in the air
And somethings I'm not saying
'bout what's happening out there
It's inside out

Look into the future
With your mystic crystal ball
See if it ain't yellow
See if it's there at all
(Ain't no shadow or a doubt)
(Don't it make you wanna twist and shout)

When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out
(Inside out)
(Right side up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out
Inside out
Inside out

The next one I want to suggest is "Deep Blue" which is a blue song, but at the same time one of his acoustic masterpieces.

I love it how he picks away on his guitar in this beautiful song about his Mom and whereas it is about being blue, it also has a very sunny sound.

You know I'm Deep Blue

Lyrics:
When sunshine is not enough
To make me feel bright
It's got me suffering in the darkness
That's so easy come by on the road-side
Of one loong life-time

It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue

When you stand there, watch tired bodies
Full of sickness and pain
To show you just how helpless you really are
When you get down to the truth
It hurts me

It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue

When I think of the life I'm living
Pray God help me; give me your light
So I can love you and understand
This repetition that keeps me here
Feeling deep blue

It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue

Funny how he makes a REALLY sad song sound even like a little ditty, with the lovely acoustic guitar work. An excellent piece. I hope it gets to our ears in proper remastered sound soon. After Dhani gets another holiday, of course.

It's been a while, so why not pick up a cheery song

One starting with a double guitar opening, after which in the background a clear rock riff is heard. I think that a separate demo with this, like a few of Art Of Dying, would be awesome

It's obvious that this electric guitar riff part was added at 'me' after the acoustic kitchen sessions, as also the horns.

The background vocals come in from the far, giving the highlight to George in this very clear Harrisong within the Wilbury Catalogue.

The group vocals clearly show the high voice of Jeff coming in and probably Tom on the bass one?

The often forgotten Jim Keltner plays quite some drums here, as usual having a great time between these big heroes op pop music.

Throughout the song I get the feeling that the tempo goes up, it seems to go faster like a bullit from a gun..is it me? Maybe it's the weather in Sunny Rotterdam

At 2.20 "I see the sun ahead" the Big O adds some awesome backing vocal on his own. What a man, what a voice.

What an sensational break of the song. The first finish. I guess this was the original kitchen end after which at Friar Park the additional part was recorded. That's often how it goes huh, we start in the kitchen and then finish it elsewhere

Great finale of a great Wilbury song

Oh the tittle

Heading For The Light

Lyrics:
I've wandered around with nothing more than time on my hands
I was lost in the night with no sight of you
And at times it was so blue and lonely
Heading for the light

Been close to the edge, hanging by my fingernails
I've rolled and I've tumbled through the roses and the thorns
And I couldn't see the sign that warned me, I'm
Heading for the light

Ooh - I didn't see that big black cloud hanging over me
And when the rain came down I was nearly drowned
I didn't know the mess I was in

My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light

Ooh - my hands were tired
Jokers and fools on either side
But still I kept on till the worst had gone
Now I see the hole I was in

My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light

I see the sun ahead, I ain't never looking back
All the dreams are coming true as I think of you
Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light

Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light

Yeah cool song FP nice choise

Nex one is a song from the Traveling Wilburys

Like A Ship

Of which there are various bootleg versions.

Clearly a Dylan song, very nice and the version I have on right now, has Dylan on guitar and on very cool not too hoarse vocals, one or two additional acoustic guitars, a bass, backing vocals by Jeff, Tom and George and very nice drumming and percussion by the one and only Jim Keltner

Lyrics
Like a ship on the sea, her love rose over me
Like a ship on the sea, her love rose over me
Go 'way, go 'way, let me be.
Like a weepin' willow tree, her love hangs over me
Like a weepin' willow tree, her love hangs over me
Go 'way, go 'way, let me be.
Standin' on the white cliffs of Dover
Lookin' out into space
Another channel to cross over
Another dream to chase.
The night is dark and dreary
The wind is howling down
Your heart is hanging heavy
When your sweet love ain't around.
Like a leaf on a tree, her love is shakin' me
Like a leaf on a tree, her love is shakin' me
Go 'way, go 'way, let me be
[ Hauntin' me like a ship on the sea ]
Like a leaf, like a ship on the sea.
[ Hauntin' me like a ship on the sea ]

if it's alright with you guys, i'd like to go with let it down. i was just watching the video for it on george's website. it'd forgotten what a beautiful song it is. . .

Though you sit in another chair, I can feel you here
Looking like I don't care but I do, I do
Hiding it all behind anything I see
Should someone be looking at me

While I occupy my mind, I can feel you here
Love to us is so well timed and I do, I do
Wasting away these moments so heavenly
Should someone be looking at me

Let it down - let it down
Let your hair hang all around me
Let it down - let it down
Let your love flow and astound me

As you look so sweetly and divine
I can feel you here
I see your eyes are busy kissing mine
And I do, I do
Wondering what it is they're expecting to see
Should someone be looking at me

Let it down - let it down
Let your hair hang all around me
Let it down - let it down
Let your love flow and astound me
