Default 'The Yellow Submarine' to start shooting in April 2011

Cary Elwes Says Robert Zemeckis' 3D Mo-Cap 'The Yellow Submarine' Will Start Shooting In April 2011

With casting announced way back in January of this year, news quickly grew quiet around Robert Zemeckis' 3D motion-capture adaptation of the Beatles' "The Yellow Submarine." And with the director eyeing a handful of projects in the past months including "Superman: Man Of Steel," "Timeless" and "Dark Life," not to mention the closing of his ImageMovers studio the film seemed to be dead. But looks can be deceiving.

Speaking to MTV at the New York Comic Con, Cary Elwes confirmed the the project is still very much alive and planning to go in front of cameras in April of next year. While the actor has signed a waiver preventing him from spilling too many details about the film, he does speak a bit about the mo-cap experience saying, "It's more than a voice. We actually have to perform the roles," he said. "If you know much about motion-capture, it's not just voice-over work. You really have to perform the role." Thanks Cary, we knew that already.

Elwes is set to play George Harrison and will be joined by lesser known British actors like Dean Lennox Kelly (who will play John Lennon), Peter Serafinowicz (who will play McCartney and had a pretty amusing turn in the otherwise mirthless "Couple's Retreat") and Adam Campbell (as the perennially-jovial Ringo Starr). Why the unknowns? Firstly, they're cheap for a film that is going to cost a bundle thanks to licensing the Beatles catalog alone, and with mo-cap, who really cares who's behind the digital makeup?

Well that answers the question of whether or not they were going to go forward with this. I'm still very up in the air about it

I heard about that . . . I don't usually judge a book by it's cover but I'm pretty sure the original will be better. Plus there's the cameo at the end, with George and the kite handle and John and the telescope . . .

As much as I like Cary, I'm still very leary about this film. He used to come into the bookstore I worked at and became pretty much a regular...really nice and funny guy.

What the hell is wrong in Hollywood? ( I know, I know, I opened up a HUGE can of worms with that question). Where are some ORIGINAL ideas, man? As far as the voices and actors are concerned, well, in the original the actors doing the voice-overs sounded nothing like the real ones, a fact that became painfully evident in the ending cameos.

I think, for the most part, the actors in the original Yellow Submarine sounded somewhat like the real Beatles. George and Ringo sounded almost exactly like themselves and Paul was okay, but whoever played John was horrible!

I still liked the John character though. And to meet my requirements, the movie has to have all the same songs and the cameo at the end with ALL the Beatles. Which means it won't meet my requirements.

Will this movie feature the same songs, from the original movie?

LetThereBeMusic, that's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Why do they have to make it 3D? In MOCAP?! The cartoon, 42 years ago, will be better than a 2011 remake.

I think I'm now having second thoughts about the remake. Sure, it'll probably suck, but at least these people are big enough Beatles fans to want to make a remake in the first place, and if the movie does really good, think of all the little kids that will become Beatles fans!

I still dont understand why Robert Zemeckis is still so obsessed with mo-cap films in general. And like the rest of you, I still dont understand why he felt this needed to be remade.

You were right the first time. It will suck.

If it in fact, does trigger more kids to like the Beatles, then I hope that they'll be big enough fans to watch the original... -___-
3-D Is the most... beyond words for me. I'm just sick of everything coming out in 3-D. I have automatic respect for movies that don't use it. xD

It's with Disney!

I think I might cry... If the world DOES come to an end in 2012, it will be because of this movie. -headdesk-

Paul McCartney thought the original Yellow Submarine movie was going to be a Disney movie. To quote (not really, I'm just stating from memory): I thought, This is going to be the best Disney movie ever! but then we found that it's heading towards the Pepper direction...

That was before Disney movies got all weird, though.

Hmm. I don't know what to think about this... I don't think that they can duplicate the original (cameo especially ^.^), but if I were in the movie I think I'd have a hard time due to the fact that so much was expected of me ("being a Beatle", you could say, would be difficult). I'm sure I'm going to see this just because it relates to the Beatles.

well i'm just gonna wait til i see a trailer or something and then i might go see it. Who knows, the director is a Beatles fan and he was the guy who made that really funny 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand'. not to mention the back to the future series. I'll just wait and see but there's a chance i might go see it.

Now the Smurf movie on the other hand.... Ugh why?!
