Default Maureen Cleave in the Daily Mail

She wrote the original 1966 article that sparked the "bigger than Jesus" controversy. The title of this piece is "Maureen Cleave: Did I break up The Beatles?", but journalists aren't responsible for the attention-grabbing headlines that appear above their work. That's the editor's job. She doesn't make that claim herself.

Interesting read! I haven't read too much about Maureen besides her most famous article... The comments were kind of harsh lol. I'm sure her 1966 article and the reaction it caused was one of the last straws that caused the group to stop touring.

I'm sure she did not singlehandedly cause the breaking up of the Beatles ... although, some may argue they were at their popularity peak in 1964-65. Really, anything that happened after that may have contributed to reasons for their eventual breakup, but no one event did it.
