Here is the full story of John Lennon's remarkable uncle, the late singer-composer Charlie Lennon, told in Charlie's own words and in tributes by some of those who knew him best. The book provides a unique, fascinating look into the Lennon family and John's early life in his hometown of Liverpool, England. Charlie talks candidly about his childhood days in Liverpool, his wartime service in the Royal Army, his memories of John and of John's son Julian, and his life as a hometown celebrity after coming home to Liverpool in 1982. His close friend Scott Wheeler takes up the story in the 1980s, chronicling his many "travels with Charlie" around Liverpool and Boston in the course of eight years of band tours. The book includes tributes from 13 of Charlie's friends, and is illustrated with nearly 600 photos, including many rare Lennon family pictures that have never before been published.

Sample Text:
"I saw John only once during the war. I came home to Liverpool when he was four years old. We decided we'd go and have a walk-'round. John's mother and father went into the fish shop in Penny Lane, and I stood with John outside a toy shop. John's pointing at this big tin bus in the window. I said, "You want that?" And he got all excited. So, of course, I go in and buy it for him, don't I? And while I'm paying for this bus, John's walking out the door with a Donald Duck with wheels, on a piece of string. Mind you, he'd broken it before he got home! I didn't see John again until he invited me up to his home in Weybridge in November 1967. His dad said to me, "What are you going to say to John when you see him?" I said, "I'll ask for me bus back." And John had still got the bus! It was up in the music room when I saw it."

About Scott Wheeler:
Scott Wheeler and Charlie Lennon were friends and performing partners for 13 years. Scott, from Boston, USA, has performed rock and roll on stage, radio and TV for hundreds of thousands of fans in America and in England. He is featured every year in Liverpool's international Beatle Week festival.

Scott Wheeler's new, 432-page book, "Charlie Lennon: Uncle To A Beatle", has just been published by Outskirts Press in Colorado, USA, and is now available for purchase via amazon.com. For more info on the book, plus a look at the front cover, please go to outskirtspress.com/charlielennon.

Uncle Charlie, the younger brother of John's father Alfred, died in 2002 at the age of 83. He was a tireless campaigner for the legacy of the Lennon family, as well as a hometown celebrity in Liverpool and a singer-songwriter in his own right. No doubt many Beatles Ireland members can recall their own happy memories of meeting Charlie during the 1980s and '90s.

Charlie and Scott were close friends and performing partners in Liverpool and Boston for the last 13 years of his life. They had a ball performing together in his band, The Scott Wheeler Band, at Liverpool's annual Beatles conventions, on BBC Radio, and at many other venues on Merseyside.

The book's foreword was written by Bill Harry, who is well known to Beatles fans as John Lennon's college flatmate and the founder-publisher of the famous 1960s Liverpool music paper Mersey Beat. The closing section of the book consists of tributes to Charlie by 13 of his friends, including former Beatles assistant Alistair Taylor and former Beatles promoter Sam Leach.

The book contains nearly 600 photos, including a special section featuring old Lennon family photos from Charlie's secret private collection that have never been published until now and cannot be found anywhere else. There are also hundreds of other photos of interest to Beatles fans, including photos and histories of their mutual friend Pete Best, John Lennon's Original Quarrymen, the Casbah Coffee Club, Mathew Street, the Cavern Club, the Jacaranda Club, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, and the annual Beatles conventions in Liverpool.

If you buy the book and like what you read, I hope you will kindly let Scott know at scottwheelerband@aol.com. He also hopes to see you during Liverpool's Beatle Week festivities in August, when nearly half a million music fans are expected to descend upon the city. That is one book I'll have to check out. You can see Charlie looks a bit like John's father in this picture, but maybe that's the power of suggestion.

John was the spitting image of his father.

I couldn't get the idea?
I mean, is it something about the ancient kings and rulers of
United Kingdom?
:)
Seems to be like that.
