Re: Other Bands We Love
Other stuff Brett listens to (probably not indicative at all of other Beatle fans I guess):
Van Halen (Obsessed fan for almost 20 years now)
Led Zeppelin
Alice In Chains
Metallica (when they were good, say 1986)
The Who
Iron Maiden (as of late, been rediscovering them)
Lots of other stuff, those just came to my mind first.

Re: Other Bands We Love
Van Halen is my main obsession, and really the only band I follow outside of studio recordings. Other favorites are the Who, the Stones, Counting Crows, Black Crowes, Jackson Browne, Guns n' Roses.

Re: Other Bands We Love
Really? I suppose they could have been, who knows, but all I can say is that I saw them live in Dublin about 2 years ago, and they were superb. I havent felt emotion in music like that since The Beatles. When I am feeling down, I put on 'Shower Your Love' and I immediately feel happy, it is purely an emotional response, I have always responded that way to music, very often not even knowing the lyrics. There ya go, different strokes eh?

Re: Other Bands We Love
I have a wide range of other artists that I'll listen to from time to time. Some of them are:
Led Zepplin
The Monkees
Barry Manilow
Kansas
Kiss
Klaatu
Carpenters
ZZ Top
America
Boston
The Doors
But there is one genre of "music" I do not like is Rap. (Yesterday, I was forced to listen to some. It came from someone in a Jeep 5 miles away!)

Re: Other Bands We Love
Well, the only thing that comes close to The Beatles for me is Jimi Hendrix. I'm obsessed with collecting every live performance that exists. In fact, I still might start up a Hendrix links page one of these days. But I would have to quit my job to keep up with both sites.

Other Bands We Love
Hi y'all;
I was just thinking about what it is that makes the Beatles so special for me, and came to realize that it's the emotional power that the songs hold. So I thought I'd ask: What OTHER bands have the power to make us elated, sad, laugh and cry, etc. ?
I'll start. Besides the Fab Four, there's:
* Pink Floyd
* The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
* Christine Lavin
* Suzanne Vega
Anyone?

Re: Other Bands We Love
Oh, man, what a can of worms you've opened now
Lessee, how about Chicago, Van Halen, John Cougar, the Police, the Everly Brothers, the Big Bopper, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Prince, Kenny Rogers, REO Speedwagon, ELO, ...
Oh, I pretty much like a lot of 'em, and almost all of them have at least one tune that's special for me
No rap, save the classical for when I'm in the mood, but you can always hit me in a good mood with some Glenn Miller or Booker T and the MGs...

Re: Other Bands We Love
Alanis Morrisette
Billy Joel
Don MacClean
Elton John
Bruce Springstein
Madonna
Jefferson Airplane
Byrds
You know, I have never really heard Van Halen, but their name has been mentioned so many times that I think I may have a new Napster mission ahead of me!

Re: Other Bands We Love
I'm pretty much lost in the '60s:
Grateful Dead
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones (pre mid 70s)
The only post 70s performer that I really like is Tom Petty.

Re: Other Bands We Love
Well Led Zeppelin isn't really a 60's band, considering 90% of their career spanned the decade of the 70's.
