Default Copa America

It was our turn now. After the Euro2004 finished, with a very well-deserved although unexpected champion, it's the turn for us in America to have our own tournament.

Of course I'm always going to support my national team but I have a horrid feeling. Our debut is today against Brazil... But hey, anything could happen.

Favorite so far is Argentina (hey Ana Lennon! ) who did not have mercy on Ecuador and beat them 6-1. And there's always the local team, Perú, just because they're playing at home, and Brazil, because they're Brazil, although no team is having their most important players... a shame, really.

Current results are:

Group A
Colombia 1 - Venezuela 0
Perú 2 - Bolivia 2

Group B
Uruguay 2 - México 2
Argentina 6 - Ecuador 1

Today, two games for Group C: Paraguay vs Costa Rica and Brazil vs Chile.

Keep visiting http://www.copaamericaperu2004.com for more info (there's an English version of the site, of course) and I will keep soccer fans updated, too.

Well, as we say over here, tradition wins nothing beforehand...But you might want to start your prayers just in case

OK, jokes aside, "buena sorte" to all teams involved in the competition. Let the beautiful game begin!

Yeah, Argentina did it very good. For me, Argentina showed that the team is recovering. 6-1 is an amazing result to start. Very good for us!! . "El pibe" Saviola PLAYED IN A VERY SMART WAY

I've also seen the match between Mexico - Uruguay. Our neighbours are doing well! I didn't like Mexico...

Well we lost against Brazil. They scored the goal in minute 90, after we had lost a penalty kick (which was scored at first time, but then had to be repeated because of an unfair referee.

We played a good game and lost it against a surpisingly bad Brazilian team. Oh well, if we keep playing like our first half, we could well beat Paraguay and Costa Rica and make it to the next round. Losing against Brazil is not that big of a tragedy either, is it? They are the actual champions of the world anyway.

So, now it is:

Paraguay 1 - Costa Rica 0
Brazil 1 - Chile 0

I have seen Peru against Venezuela... what a match!!! Paeru played very well!! Peru beated Venezuela 3-1, and it deserved it. But, I must say that the goal made by Venezuela was a GOLAZO!!!

Today, we play against Mexico....we'll see what happens....if our luck continues(I don't like Bielsa, the trainer)

Results of yesterday:

Group A
Colombia 1 - Ecuador 0
Peru 3 - Venezuela 1

Today:

Group B
Uruguay 2 - Ecuador 1
México 1 - Argentina 0

Sorry for Argentina, but it was pretty well-deserved. I watched the match and Mexico did a very good game. But still Argentina has the best chances to qualify (because of the 6-1 against Ecuador).

Tomorrow, Brazil v Costa Rica and Chile v Paraguay... I'm so afraid again...

Liking soccer is a nightmare. How much suffering is a man capable of taking I don't really know.

We were almost there, but now we're almost out...

Results of yesterday:

Costa Rica 1 - Brazil 4
Chile 1 - Paraguay 1

So Group C standings are now: Brazil 6; Paraguay 4; Chile 1; Costa Rica 0... We can still qualify in the third place, but I highly doubt it.

Today Group A finishes with two games:
Bolivia v Venezuela
Perú v Colombia

Bolivia and Venezuela have a last chance, while I think Perú and Colombia are qualified and will dispute the first place. So far biggest surprise has been Mexico winning over Argentina (1-0). Brazil has been somehow of a disappointment, except for the fact that they've made goals when they had to. Argentina was so irregular (6-1 against Ecuador, then lost against Mexico)... Colombia won their two games without running, and Perú suffered way too much to reach a 2-2 against Bolivia, so I don't really think you can speak about favorites now. This is getting really unpredictable.

You tell me! :P

Pitiful game Brazil had against Chile - we won, but we played awfully bad...Not up to the traditional standarts.

The game against Costa Rica was a wash-out. But, c'mon...it wasn't an Argentina (and God forbid facing Argetina with such a team we've been showing )

Hang in there, darkhorse...Football is torture, quite - but I wouldn't trade it for no thing in the world

That's quite the magic in it, right?

Results of the last two days:

Group A
Venezuela 1 - Bolivia 1
Perú 2 - Colombia 2

Final standings: Colombia, 7; Perú, 5; Bolivia 2; Venezuela, 1 (Colombia and Perú qualify to next round)

Group B
Mexico 2 - Ecuador 1
Argentina 4 - Uruguay 2

Final standings: Mexico, 7; Argentina; 6; Uruguay, 4; Ecuador, 0 (México, Argentina and Uruguay qualify to next round)

Argentina did quite an interesting game today against Uruguay, although the latter also have a good team (very defensive in my humble opinion). They managed to solve the problem quickly in the last minutes of the game, and take a deep breath after that. México is still the surprise.

Tomorrow group C ends, with Costa Rica v Chile and Brazil v Paraguay.

Not really, when you tend to embarass yourself by your playing. It's terrible, terrible. If you can't beat your rivals you must go out, period. Another miserable failure for chilean football.

So it was
Costa Rica 2 - Chile 1
Brazil 1 - Paraguay 2
Final standings for group C: Paraguay, 7; Brazil, 6; Costa Rica, 3; Chile, 1

Paraguay, Brazil and Costa Rica move on to next round, which are quarterfinals already:

Perú v Argentina
Colombia v Costa Rica
Uruguay v Paraguay
México v Brazil

Very interesting tournament, I shall agree.

Bumping this up... this is the quarterfinals weekend. Two games have been played so far, and Argentina & Colombia will face eachother in one semifinal.

Perú 0 - Argentina 1
Colombia 2 - Costa Rica 0

Today Uruguay v Paraguay is one game; Brazil v México is the other one. The winners will play against eachother in the other semifinal.

I'll put my bets on Argentina this time. They haven't been brilliant whatsoever, but have played a smart game throughout the tournament, and are improving a lot.
