Default Hi- \'Paul is Dead\' theory?

Hi. I'm new here, and I'm a new Beatles fan. You lot seem interesting! I never knew "All You Need Is Love" took 58 takes... Just wondering- What is your opinion on the 'Paul is Dead' theory? I think it's just something the Beatles did to be remembered. (Not that they would have been forgotten anyway!) Paul is alive and well, I believe. How about you?

About your question. I'm not sure where the "Paul is dead" thing started, but there are plenty of people here that have the SCOOP!! The Beatles thought they would be around a couple of years if they were lucky. They missed that prediction by a few years!! The Beatles No.1 CD sold (approx.) 22 million copies. This was old music all of us already had!!! AMAZING!

i heard that everyone thought paul was in a car crash on a wednesday morning in 1965 or something and he died and all the newspapers wrote an article about it and right before the newspapers came out the rest of them said that they shouldnt tell the rest of the world so got rid of the article and the newspapers were delayed that morning and and and!!!! thats all i remember. but everyone knows that already i bet.

i DONT think paul is dead. i think its "just a rumah" but it is kinda creepy. i beleive that people looked at the album covers and the backwards messages and lyrics and stuff and just wove everything in and out of everything else and things got screwed upand the beatles might not have had anything to do with it but there are some interesting sites on the paul is dead thing, and i even found a "john is alive" theory!!!

buti can see a "did it to be remembered" thing happening. but why paul i wonder i wonder????

"wednesday morning papers didnt come...."

*shudders*

Welcome to Beatlelinks, IamtheWalrus. To answer your question, the "Paul Is Dead" rumor started around the fall of '69. As the story goes, Paul was killed in a car crash, but his "death" was covered up. Consequently, there were many supposed "death clues" concerning the Paul's "demise", including album covers and songs that The Beatles recorded post-1966. Personally, I think it was just a rumor started by DJ Russ Gibbs, who worked in Detroit to make a name for himself. I should also mention that I did a class presentation about the "Paul Is Dead" rumor, when I was a freshman in college. There have been numerous books, magazines, and even websites devoted to this subject. The best site on the subject is one that was that was done by our fellow Beatlelinker, Harbidge. The web address is: www.paulisdead.latest-info.com/ This should provide the best answers to whatever questions you have on the subject.

I think the question is:

Do you think that the Beatles had planned and planted these clues to keep interest in an unprecedented career? It almost seems like that ("Paul is dead, man" is pretty convincing as is the cover of Abbey Rd but by then they were well established but at that point the clues could have been an in-joke or runaway train).
or:
Is it strictly coincidental as we all searched their music and cover art for anything that resembled a clue?

This is what I believe--the human brain is wired to find patterns, even in things like the placement of stars in the sky, the settling of tea leaves in a cup, and the unconnected elements in song lyrics and album covers. If you want to badly enough, you can interpret almost anything as an omen of some sort. I think someone even put together a list of clues "proving" everybody BUT Paul is dead. Harb probably has a link to that.

Another part of the "Paul is Dead" theory, IMO, is the way Beatlemania became so intense it practically became a religion. After all, religion demands sacrifice, as poor Ringo learned in Help! I think when the rumor first got into circulation, it tapped into some part of our collective psyche, and that's why it became such a big deal.

Anyway, IamtheWalrus, hope that answered your question. Goo goo goo joob to you, and welcome to Beatlelinks!

Thanks. Yeah, I know about the clues and stuff, but I just wanted your opinion. Some people believe he died, then Billy Shears came into the band for awhile to cover it up, until Paul was "reincarnated". ("The one and only Billy Shears" from Sgt. Pepper.)

PeaceFlame: Want a good site on 'Paul' theory? Got to http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Lounge/1214/

The site is called, 'He blew his mind out in a car'. It has pics of album covers, clues, fan letters and other stuff.

Welcome to Beatlelinks, Walrus. We hope you will enjoy the show. I'm surprised that Harb has not posted in this topic yet. My opinion is that if the Beatles had wanted to play a trick on the general populace, they did a good job.

Ye GAWD! I really should have checked this forum earlier!!!

I see that whenever someone mentions Paul is Ded, I'm mentioned, and Joe even gave out the link for my site! Thanks for the compliment about it!

I don't like saying it, but I've been continually told that my site is the best of it's kind on the net, so visiting it won't do any harm. It's got every clue ever found, plus quite a few not found anywhere else on the net.
