Default The Beatles 'bigger than Jesus' on Google

The Beatles 'bigger than Jesus' on Google

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/m...on-Google.html

More than forty years after John Lennon invoked the ire of Christians by claiming his band were bigger than Jesus, he has been proved right by an analysis of search terms on the Google search engine.

In the last four weeks more computer users have typed in the search word "Beatles" on the Google website than "Jesus". The popularity of The Beatles has increased substantially during September thanks to the re-release of all of their albums digitally-remastered.

The last month also saw the release of the video game The Beatles Rock Band, which allows players to pretend to be Paul, John, George or Ringo by playing along to their songs on plastic instruments, while watching cartoon versions of the band on a screen.

In March 1966 Lennon caused uproar when he told the Evening Standard: "I do not know what will go first, rock'n'roll or Christianity … we're more popular than Jesus now".

Across America, angry Beatlemaniacs burned their Fab Four vinyl in protest and Lennon was forced to issue a rambling apology: "I wasn't saying whatever they're saying I was saying. I'm sorry I said it really. I never meant it to be a lousy anti-religious thing. I apologise if that will make you happy. I still don't know quite what I've done. I've tried to tell you what I did do but if you want me to apologise, if that will make you happy, then OK, I'm sorry."

Computer users can find out which topics people are searching for on Google by using the Google trends website, which allows you to analyse in detail the words people are typing in from different countries and different time periods.

Though the graph clearly shows that The Beatles caught the imagination of more people during September than Jesus did, video games experts point out that The Beatles Rock Band has not fared as well in the shops as expected with rival music game Guitar Hero 5 outselling the Fab Four's version.

Well maybe if Jesus would remaster His albums already...the 1548 pressing of Please Preach Me sounds so tinny.

Well, if that's how to determine popularity then GOOGLE is bigger than both of them! I just got the keyword tracker list I subscribe to and neither Beatles nor Jesus is in the top 300 searches. The top 5, and why anyone using Google would search for Google defeats me, but anyway, here they are:

1 google
2 youtube
3 yahoo
4 myspace
5 craigslist

Megan Fox is bigger than the Beatles and Jesus combined, just like I said she would be when I first saw her on Hope and Faith!

And all this time I thought Boxcar Willie was bigger than the Beatles, Elvis, and Jesus. Jesus, by the way, IS being remastered for the umpteenth time. I recently read that the Bible is getting it's latest greatest overhaul, so don't count out just yet... http://www.christiancentury.org/article.lasso?id=7847

My favorite part is the new version will not have Apostle Paul (of all people) saying "I was stoned...", but rather "I was pelted by stones" so there won't be any question as to what he meant by that...

"Nasty, in a widely quoted interview, had said that the Rutles were bigger than God, and had gone on to say that God had never had a hit record"

There now, see? Perhaps if God did have hit records, he'd be more popular than the Beatles

The relative popularity of either really doesn't matter to me. I'm certainly a big fan of the Beatles, but I'm a much bigger fan of Jesus.

Yeah, that was quite funny!

We could also speak of these hit albums:

Jesus for Sale
Sgt. Pepper's Salvation Army Band

And the movie soundtracks:
A Hard Day's Hell
Hell!
Yellow Cathedral
Let It Preach

i did that last year and the Beatles had more then. Will the Beatles be as famous as Jesus is now in 2000 yrs. though?

Jesus, Beatles, and the Google Golgotha... they're all in the swirling miasma of the Dharma anyway, so what's it matter...

"All you need is love" and "I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together" is about as religious as you can get... Love and compassion are THE WORD, right?...

Funny how all the "middle-aged Southern DJs and 12-year-olds" and the "good ol' boys" of the Klan who did all the burning and brimstone spitting zeroed in on one misquoted sound byte, and totally igonored the lyrics of "The Word", released only months before. Maybe if they listened to the records before burning them, there wouldn't even have been a real issue...

I reckon JC would've dug JL and the Fabs...
