Default Working Class Hero

In the early 70's, John assisted Yoko during one of her own concerts. They had to modify their performance, however, for a specific reason.

For two points...

Tell me the venue that they performed at, and where exactly were they as they performed—and why?

I'll guess a church and they performed at the altar?

Nope!

I should mention, I am looking for the actual name of the venue.

I'll wait for another couple guesses, and then I'll post a hint.

I'm having problems with this one - One to one concert, Madison Square Garden. NYC 8-30-1972. They had to share a piano due to microphone problems?
Yes, total guess.

But a guess nonetheless! And that's a good thing.

How do I give another hint without giving part of the answer away...?

The concert—which was Yoko's mainly—took place in a specific part of a very famous location in Manhattan where many world-class musicians have performed.

I'll give away a key portion of the answer now... but will still need the specific location and the nature of, and reason for, their "modified" performance.

It took place at Lincoln Center in very early 1972.

Well.... here we are, and there are a mere 3 hours and 30 minutes remaining in June. For some of you, July has already begun!

So I will now give the answer to this last question:

Yoko preformed, with John's "assistance", at the Alice Tully Hall in New York's Lincoln Center on Jan. 10, 1972.

They had to perform in the seats of the audience, due to their failure to obtain US work visas!

And with that, I will call June's winner Colonel Angus. Score card ends at:

Colonel Angus 3
Lynner 2

It has been a pleasure, these past couple years or so, conducting the monthly contest every 3-4 months. But due to my new job leaving me with scant time to be here at Beatlelinks—let alone conduct a contest—I will no longer be a Contest Mod.

Thanks to everyone who made the contest fun for me to deal with, and for being good sports over some of my more.... "creative" questions!
