I understand the recording process but I am talking about the tunes themselves. I thing Maybe I'm Amazed, Everynight and Junk sound relaxed while these new tunes sound forced. And I am not just talking Chaos. Driving and Flaming also sounded(the melodies not the production) forced.

I am being easily amused today. I've probably read 20 reviews so far and nearly all the US reviewers (even the ones who normally hate him) are positive to glowing and the UK reviewers are all "WHAT the HELL is this CRAP???" Fascinating, really.

I've seen some good reviews in the Uk. Q and Mojo magazines were quite impressed by it.

Cool, I haven't read any mags yet, this observation was based on a non-scientific survey of newspapers only. I'm sure my sample size was not statistically significant, so my results could be skewed.

I came home from a crappy day at work, poured a glass of white wine, and look what's on my desk. Chaos and Creaction the Backyard," oh, and a DVD of Magical Mystery Tour...
My husband is wonderfully thoughtful. So, I'm enjoying my wine and Paul's new album. So far I'm loving it! Hubby also brought into the room an article in the OC Register about the process Paul went through to make this album... Says he dug deep lyrically.
Love you PAUL! Can't wait to see you in November!

I'm sorry, but I can't shut up. I just read this about the album:
“I decided to lay it on the line for myself and challenge myself and say, ‘You’re going to make a good album here.’ It was a good motivator,” he said.
Time magazine breathlessly declared Chaos to be McCartney’s first album that matters since the Beatles broke up 35 years ago. But it’s simply unlike anything he’s done before, a quiet disc with complicated emotional shadings — the album that generations of critics who derided his sunny, silly love songs have been asking him to make. "
Sigh...

I agree with you that it seems forced. I have been thinking all day that his voice (and especially in the DVD that comes with the CD) sounds so rough and old. I know he's almost 64, smoked like a freight train, and abused his voice being a singer, but it's sad that his voice is so raspy and shaky. This CD (and Driving Rain) really show how much he has mellowed with age. Guess we'll never get another Rock Show, Band on the Run, Junior's Farm, or Hi Hi Hi. I got the new Stones CD, too, and it is a rock album. They are still the Stones.
I am not saying I don't like the new Paul album. I was just hoping for another Flaming Pie, not another Driving Rain.

I really enjoyed the album myself almost as good (for different reasons) as the new elbow album.

I've basically listened to nothing but this album in my car since it's come out, and I really love it. It seems a piano-heavy album. I haven't been blown away by the bass, which makes me sad because, well- it's Paul, and I like awesome bass from him. But maybe i'll notice the bass more as I listen to it more. Seriously, though. This is a fine album; his third best solo in my eyes (after Flaming Pie and Ram). Great job, Macca!

I love it. I listened to it again on the way to work (no wine to tweak my opinion). I think it's a perfect fall album. I'm listening to it every moment I can. Rah! Rah! Rah! Macca I love you! Can't wait until November when I see ya in person!

Great album! I am so much more impressed with this one than his last one...Driving Rain.
Only problem is I cannot rip it to my iPod. Bummer.

I was able to rip it using ITunes to MP3, but I don't have an Ipod, but I burned it onto an MP3 Macca Collection CD.

I heard a mini interview of Paul on my way home for lunch. He said his producer suggested he play the drums, and next thing he knew he was playing every instrument. I really love it! (Oh, I said that about already!)

At first, I think I was not all that impressed, but now that I have listed to it about 5 times, I like it better than I thought I would. People Magazine gave it four stars. I think "Anyway" sounds like "People Get Ready." I think that "Too Much Rain" could be a Coldplay song.

I wonder if life experience has anything to do with this new album?
As an old folks original Beatle fan, I totally love it.
Lyrically--I get it.
