Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
i myself had created some mantras.
is not simple to create mantras. it cannot have an end as a rupture and it flows forever with different entonations and no syncopes.
wanna hear it?

Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
"Jai Guru De Va" means "all glories to the guru, who is equal to/higher than a demigod..." + "Om", which is a bit harder to define. Christians say, "in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Om is that word, that is the causitive force/vibration behind creation. As the Christians have a trinity in Father, Son, Spirit...Hindus have Tat, Sat, & Om. From Om came the word Amen, and similar words within other cultures. Some refer to it as the Creative voice of God.
Also, George says, "Jai Gurudev" on his live in Japan CD...which means similarly, "All glories to the spiritual master".
Hope this helps!

Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
Lookie what I found . I think we are both pretty right on....
http://www.users.qwest.net/~gcliving...ranslation.htm
Funny site...seems they have received many translations themselves. It is a very difficult language to translate~ and scholars do praise Prabhupad for his magnificent ability, in fact. You know, his sensitivity to context in translation. So even colleges carry his versions of Vedic texts.
I know the word Deva as a Celtic kind of one, like in the Findhorn gardens. Bet George loved the story of Findhorn!
Oh, I also read ANOTHER translation of George's "Jai Gurudev" in that Gurudev was also Maharishi's Guru! Interesting, I think...

Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
For all of you:
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass and slip away
Across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind posessing and caressing me
Jai Guru De Va Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million suns it calls me on and on
Across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letterbox
They tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai Guru De Va Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of love are ringing through my opened ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai Guru De Va Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai Guru De Va
Jai Guru De Va

Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
An old topic here, but I wanted to bring it back because a new member has asked about this. Thought it would be better for me to find it then send a new member on a wild goose chase just for this topic.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I know, very late to bother saying anything, but I, as a Christian, would like to make a small point. Near that verse(which is John 1:1) it says, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14) So, the word wasn't Om. Om didn't become flesh, Jesus did. The point is that the Word is Jesus, who is God. I just didn't want anyone thinking something strange about my beliefs. I realize this isn't all that clear....If somebody wants to say something about that to me, PM me.

Re: What does Jai Guru De Va Om mean?
Yep simplyrahil, but in Christian theology God is three persons :the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit, all together are One.
Anyway Om is the creative sound of all worlds and universes, along Hindu scriptures Brahma said Om,and all material things were created.
Along this ,in Hindu beliefs chanting Om ,the believer got join to the One (Brahaman).
Gurudeva is one of the nicknames of the Spiritual master.
Guru = master
Deva = angel,spiritual being
Jay (or Jaya) all the glories or like halleluja...
